NFL great Tom Brady may no longer face the pressure of a blitz on the field, but he’ll likely feel some heat as the star of a new Netflix special.
As part of the streamer’s 2024 Netflix Is a Joke Fest, Brady will be the focus of the Greatest Roast of All Time: GROAT. The event, which will be held May 5 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif., will be recorded for Netflix and hosted by Jeff Ross, reprising the “Roastmaster General” role he played on Comedy Central. So far the only other participants announced are Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer, but Netflix promises that Brady’s “famous friends and frenemies” will be on hand to lob insults at football’s G.O.A.T.
That’s just a small part of the 2024 Netflix Is a Joke Fest, which will run from May 2-12 with shows at more than 35 Los Angeles venues, including the Hollywood Bowl, the Greek, the Dolby, the Forum, the Palladium, Orpheum Theatre, and the Wiltern, as well as such comedy venues as the Hollywood Improv, Largo, Laugh Factory, and the Comedy Store. It will feature more than 300 live stand-up shows, special events, table reads and more from the biggest names in comedy, including Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Burr, John Mulaney, Sarah Silverman, Nikki Glaser, Kevin Hart, Trevor Noah, Cedric the Entertainer, Jon Stewart, Ali Wong, Wanda Sykes, Chris Rock and dozens of others.
“This is a special time for comedy, both for Netflix and the genre at large,” says Robbie Praw, Netflix VP of Stand-up and Comedy Formats. “We have the privilege of working with comedians who are selling out arenas, winning awards, and building fandoms in the millions. In the 10 years that we’ve been doing stand-up, we’ve seen the art form reach levels we didn’t think possible. This festival aims to capture this moment by bringing together the world’s best comedians for an unforgettable 11 days.”
Tickets for the festival events go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. PT on Dec. 15 at NetflixIsAJokeFest.com.
