“I’m just there to support Travis,” Swift told ‘Time’ earlier this month of the attention on her at Chiefs games
The haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate — but Taylor Swift always shakes it off!
The “Cruel Summer” singer was booed by New England fans at Sunday’s Chiefs vs. Patriots game as she cheered on boyfriend Travis Kelce — and she handled the situation like a pro.
“’Gillette Stadium is the most joyful place on Earth’ — Taylor Swift,” a message on the Jumbotron read, before a wave of boos poured out around the stadium.
In response, Swift, 34, kept it cool by smiling, waving and blowing a kiss to the audience, according to a video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).
In her Time 2023 Person of the Year interview earlier this month, Swift opened up about the impact she’s made on the NFL and the newfound attention as she cheers on Kelce, also 34, at his games.
“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in. There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once,” she said.
But “I’m just there to support Travis,” the “Karma” hitmaker added. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads and Chads.”
Her appreciation for the game itself has also evolved since she and Kelce began dating.
“Football is awesome, it turns out,” Swift cheekily said. “I’ve been missing out my whole life.”
And though she kept it cool with the boos at Sunday’s game — where the Chiefs won 27-17 — the “Clean” singer did grow visibly upset with a referee’s call.
At the top of the third quarter, the tight end missed a pass from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes while Patriots cornerback Myles Bryant was defending him on a third down.
Afterward, Kelce threw up his hands and looked to the referees, seemingly upset that they did not call pass interference on Bryant, and Swift was equally upset.
After the no-call, the “Karma” singer, who watched the game from a suite, jumped to her feet and yelled something while motioning toward the field, a clip shared by EPSN shows.
Later, after learning of Swift’s reaction to their play, Bryant says he was not surprised by her enthusiasm.
“It’s a high-stakes game. People get real into it, so it’s cool,” he told PEOPLE. “It’s cool she’s into it.”
