Thursday was a clаsh of cultures when The Mancunian and Chanel’s wealthiest overseas customers met.
It all started on Wednesday when guests started arriving for a cultural and historical whirlwind tour of Manchester, and it ended Thursday night with the Chanel Métiers d’Art fashion show.
Everyone involved is likely to feel a mix of amazement, curiosity, and humor. When it comes to Chanel presentations in Miami, St. Tropez, or Dubai, the wealthy fandom is accustomed to taking flight in private aircraft. Being in the “First” Class Lounge at Euston Station, waiting for a crowded and delayed train to Manchester Piccadilly, was an entirely new and exotic experience.
In general, the phrases “low-key” are beyond the comprehension of high-spending, Chanel-clad customers. Guests swished past the coffee-stained counters to these strange devices known as ticket barriers, accompanied by enormous quilted bags adorned with the renowned CCs and shaggy Chanel moon boots.
Even though Manchester’s football clubs bring in a lot of money, the city’s seedier side has been the subject of many memes, such as “Will Chanel wine and dine the billionaires at Greggs?” and “Is Kim Kardashian doing karaoke at The Millstone?” (a traditional pub in Manchester’s northern quarter). “How can we ruin the show?”
