Now that Jonathan Majors was fired, rumors claim Marvel could replace him with Doctor Doom, who MCU art shows Cillian Murphy would be perfect as.
Cillian Murphy gets imagined as Doctor Doom in dark Marvel Cinematic Universe fan art. The MCU is currently going through a major crisis, as Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors was fired after he was found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of harassment and assault. While no word has come on what will happen with Marvel’s Multiverse Saga plans, a past report claimed that Doctor Doom was considered as a replacement for Kang back when Majors was first arrested, and there is a perfect actor for the role.
On Instagram, artist @21xfour shared a look at just how great Murphy could be as Doctor Doom in Marvel’s upcoming movies.
The Oppenheimer actor looks great with Doom’s hood and classic mask in hand. Murphy has already addressed the possibility of playing Doom in the MCU, revealing that a good script is what it would take for him to say yes. As Murphy sits among the list of the best actors who could play Doctor Doom and is a fan favorite for the role, the fan art might turn into reality in the near future.
How Doctor Doom Could Fit Into The MCU
The Fantastic Four’s Arrival Is Key
The most logical project for Doctor Doom to be introduced in the MCU is Marvel’s Fantastic Four. The 2025 movie will see the debut of the MCU version of Marvel’s First Family from the comics, with fans hoping the team will be done justice this time around. As Doom has appeared in all Fantastic Four movies so far, it stands to reason that the villain will at least make a cameo in the MCU debut of the team.
To allow the opportunity for another villain to take the center stage in a Fantastic Four movie this time around, Doom could play a supporting role in the film or appear only as a cameo — perhaps in a Fantastic Four post-credits scene — to set up his MCU future. With Majors’ firing, Marvel could do away with their plans for Kang and his variants altogether, as the rumor that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be retitled suggests. Doom could then rise.
Without Kang, Doom would be the best choice to serve as the villain for the rest of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. The villain played a crucial role in the story that inspires Avengers: Secret Wars, which heightens the chances of seeing a live-action God Emperor Doom now that Kang’s MCU future is uncertain. Doom is such an iconic character that even if Marvel fast-tracked his arc to have him be the Multiverse Saga’s villain, he could still hang around. Doom becoming ruler of Latveria and continuing in the MCU would be the best use of the character, allowing a fresh story for Doctor Doom in live-action.
