BABYMONSTER is a rookie in the Korean entertainment industry. The group is expected to become the “little sister” of the famous girl group BLACKPINK.
BABYMONSTER debuted with the song Batter up on November 26. However, the less than stellar debut and BLACKPINK’s contract re-signing made people worried about the future of the female rookies.
Difficulty since it hasn’t officially launched yet
BABYMONSTER was announced to have 7 members, very young. Among them, the eldest sister Ruka has just turned 21 years old and the youngest sister Chiquita is only 14 years old.
Many fans, especially in Korea, have mixed opinions about the group’s lineup. More than half of the members are teenagers.
In addition, although they operate as a Kpop group, only 3 out of 7 members are Korean.
Before the official debut, the group had another member change when Ahyeon was informed that she would not participate in the debut song due to health reasons. Ahyeon’s sudden withdrawal greatly affected the group because she was the member who received the most attention.

Mysterious “disappearances” on weekly music shows
After releasing the MV Batter up , the rookie girl group did not appear at any music shows. BABYMONSTER only uploads behind-the-scenes videos of the MV filming and the song’s dance version to YouTube.

Since releasing the MV, the group has only uploaded 12 more videos on Youtube. BABYMONSTER has not yet held a press conference to launch. Fans also have not had the opportunity to interact with female rookies at autograph sessions or on the Weverse platform (an application where fans can text with celebrities).
Images and music are not outstanding
The lyrics of BABYMONSTER’s song Batter Up were considered inappropriate for the members’ ages. The song’s melody repeats the formula that YG groups have used many times.
The group’s MV was filmed mainly in a quite simply decorated studio. The 6 girls wear nearly identical outfits in each scene. This is far different from the “spending” that YG has for BLACKPINK.

Will BABYMONSTER be “forgotten” by YG?
On December 6, YG announced that 4 BLACKPINK girls had continued to renew their contracts with the company. The group has always been “the goose that lays golden eggs” even though it has been active for more than 7 years. From here, the audience questioned whether YG would continue to invest in BLACKPINK instead of BABYMONSTER.

BABYMONSTER is “in a difficult position” because she pursues the same image as her seniors. Some comments also pointed out that YG is trying to force member Chiquita to follow Lisa’s (BLACKPINK) model. Trying to become “the next BLACKPINK” makes the group fade even more on the Kpop race.

Despite many difficulties, BABYMONSTER is still expected to have a breakthrough in the future. Ahyeon’s fans also look forward to her return as soon as possible.
