Tiger Woods has revealed he was in constant pain during the first day of the Masters.

The five-time Green Jacket winner was seen wincing in pain around the course at Augusta on Thursday.

In his 25th appearance at The Masters, Woods registered two-over 74 with several shots going awry and faces a very real threat of being cut.

That included an awkward-looking shot on the 18th from the bunker that went wide of the green and saw Woods hop around on his injured leg.

The 47-year-old told reporters who asked about his leg that it was ‘sore’ and when asked about the pain, he said: “It’s constant.

“Hop on the left leg is fine. If I did it on the other one, not so fine.”

Woods suffered severe injuries in February 2021 when he was involved in a car crash that threatened his life, let alone his playing career.

He made a remarkable comeback to the Masters last year and even survived the cut but a similar fate looks a bridge too far this time.

“Most of the guys are going low today – this was the day to do it,” he added.

“Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be a little bit better, a little bit sharper, and kind of inch my way through it.

“This is going to be an interesting finish to the tournament with the weather coming in. If I can just kind of hang in there, maybe kind of inch my way back, hopefully it will be positive towards the end.”

With the weather set to get worse as the weekend goes on, including predicted storms and torrential rain, it would be a remarkable feat to remain in the competition.

Woods started off slowly after three bogeys on the first seven holes before registering a birdie on the eighth.

The 15-time Major winner could not build on that momentum, though, with a fourth bogey on the 11th before sending a mass crowd wild with back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes.

A disappointing bogey on the final hole, though, saw him register a two-over 74.

Norwegian Viktor Hovland, who went round with Woods, put together a majestic run by finishing the day seven under par to lead the clubhouse scorecards before Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka raced to meet him by the close of the day.

If Woods misses the cut at Augusta, it would be the first time in his professional career that he would do so.
