Selena Gomez says she will do more acting than singing in the future as she has become ‘too tired’ to do both but feels she has ‘one more album’ in her

Selena Gomez will likely be scaling back on her music career to focus more on acting because she is too ‘tired’ to continue to do both.

The crooner shared the news with the Monday episode of the Smartless podcast.

The Rare songbird stated that she always wanted to be an actress – her first gig was on Barney And Friends and then she became famous with Wizards Of Waverly Place.

And singing became a hobby, one which she loved but it took up a lot of time to crank out hits like Come & Get It, Love You Like A Love Song, Same Old Love and Wolves.

However, the Texas native shared that she feels as if she still has one more album in her.

Her acting career has taken off with her role opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short in the acclaimed series Only Murders In The Building

The star – who has been romancing music producer Benny Blanco – told hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, ‘I started having a lot of fun with music and then touring was really fun.

‘But I was doing my TV show [Wizards of Waverly Place] at the same time, and I just found it really fun, so I just kept going.

‘But the older I get, the more I’m kind of like, “I would like to find something to just settle on.”‘

And if she had to choose which career path to choose right now, it wouldn’t be her music.

‘I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting,’ she said.

The seasoned actors who host the podcast reassured her that it was possible to do both, which she agreed with but added: ‘You’re right, but I am going to want to chill because I’m tired.’

She added: ‘I wanted to be an actress, I never really intended on being a singer full-time but apparently that hobby turned into something else.

‘I don’t think I’m the best singer but I do know how to tell stories and I love being able to make songs,’ she continued.

As a teenager, Gomez performed with her band Selena Gomez & the Scene. They released three albums before she left to pursue a solo career in 2011 when she was 17.

She reflected on her time as a Disney channel star: ‘Disney is, it’s safe to say, a machine and, in a way, forcefully requires that I know how to sing so I could sing the theme song [of a show].

‘They know how to package someone and make it a whole triple threat thing,’ she said.

She has released five albums and five EPs since she went solo and recently dropped the song Single Soon.

In 2022, she released the documentary Selena Gomez: Me & My Mind on AppleTV+

The Selena + Chef star further explained her state of exhaustion, saying: ‘I went to a mental institute and canceled one of my tours. It just got to me because I love working and it distracts me from bad things.’

The Lose You to Love Me singer previously explored the state of her mental health in  the Apple TV+ special, Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me, which was released in 2022, and covered the years between 2016 and 2020.

While she was in the mental health facility in 2018 she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

‘I’ll be honest, I didn’t want to go to a mental hospital,’ she explained in her documentary, ‘but I didn’t want to be trapped in myself, in my mind anymore. I thought my life was over. I thought this is how I’m going to be forever.’
