Michelle Keegan burst into tears mid-interview as she discussed finishing work on her £3.5million Essex mansion.
The actress, 36, and her husband Mark Wright, also 36, finally completed work on their dream home in August – almost four years after embarking on the ambitious project.
They purchased the land for £1.3million in 2019 and built the property from scratch, sharing their journey – from original architect designs to choosing the right marble for their kitchen surfaces – on their @wrightyhome Instagram account.
The sprawling house boasts five bedrooms, a home bar, a private spa and gym, a walk-in wardrobe, a sauna, a granny annexe, spacious grounds and an outdoor swimming pool.
The couple celebrated their housewarming with a lavish ‘Marcella’ pool party, complete with fireworks and performances from Scouting For Girls, Olly Murs, and Russell Kane.
Six months later and Michelle has admitted she still gets ’emotional’ over the mega-mansion and broke down while talking about it in a recent interview.
Speaking to The Guardian, she began to cry as she recalled: ‘I was filming in Australia and hadn’t seen the house for months.
‘And when I walked in, Mark had lit all the candles and… I couldn’t speak for five minutes. He was like, “What do you think?”
‘I couldn’t find the words to say how I felt, because I was so overwhelmed. I just burst out crying.’
Michelle explained her tears were because she and Mark had ‘worked really hard’ and made ‘a lot of sacrifices’ to create their dream home.
She continued: ‘It still gets me emotional. Because we’ve worked really hard for it. We’ve had to make a lot of sacrifices.
‘I missed lots of milestones in my life due to work. Mark went to LA and we spent months apart, which was hard. But, it’s worth it.’
She added: ‘And the house – it’s also about security. Because you never know when all this is going to end.’
It comes after Michelle revealed that her husband Mark’s best friend James Argent is banned from using the toilet in their mansion.
The former Coronation Street star opened up on Mark’s close friendship with his former TOWIE co-star, 36, as she appeared on the Heart FM Breakfast Show on Wednesday.
During a recent appearance, Arg previously told show hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden that he was banned from using the toilet in Mark and Michelle’s Essex home because he ‘destroyed it’ during a past visit.
Michelle admitted: ‘Honestly every time we have parties now no one’s allowed to use it because of him.’
She insisted husband Mark – who she married in 2015 – is a ‘clean freak’ and ‘doesn’t like people using the toilet’ or having shoes on in the house.
Explaining further, Michelle said of whether Arg has to go to the loo outside at parties: ‘We hire toilets and things… If it’s a family party that’s fine, but like if it’s a big party people can go to my toilet I don’t care.’
Jamie quipped: ‘Arg is not allowed to use the loo?’ causing Michelle to reply: ‘In my eyes he is!’
Amanda joked: ‘He destroyed their toilet!’ leading a giggling Michelle to admit: ‘He destroyed it… he was hanging off.’
