LIV Golf pro becomes latest athlete to leave Nike amid Tiger Woods rumours

Matthew Wolff appears to be the latest golfer to leave Nike.

Wolff, who has recently made the switch to Bubba Watson’s team in the LIV Golf League after a nightmarish campaign with Brooks Koepka’s side, also appears to have parted ways with equipment manufacturer TaylorMade.

A video surfaced this week showing the golfer working on his game during the off-season.

The clip, filmed by his coach George Gankas, shows Wolff ‘getting dialled in at Medalist’ in Florida.

What is noticeable is that Wolff is no longer wearing any apparel from Nike and instead of a TaylorMade driver he is using a PING G430.

Wolff is also wearing FootJoy golf shoes.

At the time of writing, Wolff’s bio on social media still lists him as being part of ‘Team Nike’ and ‘Team TaylorMade’.

If true, the split with Nike would make him the latest player to depart the sporting giant.

Jason Day, who reportedly signed a $100m Nike contract in 2016, became the first high-profile golfer to leave the swoosh in 2024.

Related ArticlesDay is now wearing Malbon Golf gear. The former World No.1 caused a stir with his outfit choice during the very first event of the PGA Tour season.

When he explained his reasons for joining Malbon, Day also took what some would consider a parting shot at Nike.

“There have been times that I’d be standing on the first tee and look over to see another golfer in essentially the same outfit as me,” he said.

Day wasn’t the only PGA Tour player looking different at The Sentry. Xander Schauffele is no longer wearing adidas Golf clothing after signing with the luxury Japanese brand Descente.

As for Wolff, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think he might start using more PING gear in the future considering the aforementioned Watson’s long-standing ties to the OEM.

Elsewhere, there is still no news regarding Tiger Woods’ future with Nike. It has been reported the company was considering shutting down their entire golf division.

Woods got snippy with a reporter who asked him about Nike during the PNC Championship in December.

“I’m still wearing their product,” he said firmly.

But the fact Day and Wolff have now cut ties with Nike suggest something is going on behind-the-scenes.

Other than Woods, their main ambassadors are Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka and Nelly Korda.
