Jo Koy expressed regret for his joke made at Taylor Swift’s expense during the Golden Globes Sunday night.
“I think it was when the Taylor [Swift] one was just a little flat. … It was a weird joke, I guess,” the comedian said on Monday’s episode of “GMA3” when asked where the evening went “off the cliff.”
Koy, 52, added that the quip was “more on the NFL” rather than the “Blank Space” songstress.
“I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way,” he explained.
The “Chelsea Lately” alum also conceded that he had an “off night.”
“I wanted to give a little bit more of me, and I fell a little short. That’s all,” he said.

The “Easter Sunday” star was met with an unenthusiastic response at Sunday’s ceremony after he called out the NFL for frequently showing Swift on camera during her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s games.
“As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader,” Koy said during his opening monologue. “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear.”
Afterward, the Golden Globes broadcast cut to a shot of an extremely unamused Swift.
The Grammy winner, 34, had an ice-cold facial expression as she sipped from her champagne flute and seemingly glared at Koy on the stage.

Following the joke — and her loss for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award — fans noticed that the singer made an early exit from the event.
People on social media were quick to call out Koy for the “low blow,” including one user who wrote that the “3 second camera shots of taylor at the chiefs games last longer than jo koy ever will.”
“If Taylor Swift death stares could actually kill, Jo Koy would now be deceased,” tweeted Piers Morgan.

“Days of Our Lives” star Deidre Hall also slammed Koy for the joke, writing, “The Globes Globes host, jo koy, is a complete embarrassment to himself and the Academy. Skip it.”
However, the “View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg defended Koy, explaining how “brutal” awards shows can be for comedians.
“If you don’t know the room, if you’ve not been in these rooms before and you’re thrust out there, it’s hit or miss. [But Jo is] as good as it gets when it comes to stand-ups,” she said on Monday’s episode.
Following the backlash, Koy admitted the negative reviews “hurt.”CBS/ Golden GlobesWhat do you think? Post a comment.
Reflecting on the bad reviews, Koy admitted on “GMA3” that he would “be lying” if he said “it doesn’t hurt.”
“It’s a tough room. It was a hard job, I’m not going to lie,” he said.
“Hosting is just a tough gig. Yes, I’m a stand-up comic but that hosting position it’s a different style.”
