With Prince Harry and Lady Gaga in the line-up it was always going to be quite the royal variety performance.

The fifth in line to the throne was introduced to the Queen of Pop, famed for her outlandish stage outfits, before she performed for him at the Royal Albert Hall tonight.

Fortunately singer Gaga – real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – did not disappoint in a pink bell-sleeved sequinned dress that left little to the imagination.

The three met again later – with Lady Gaga in another revealing dress – this time with Elton John joining in

The star had matching diamonte eyebrows and was wearing a pair of Bet Lynch-style earrings with her peroxide blonde hair swept up in an elaborate top knot.

Throwing protocol to the wind, Harry hugged the American singer, whose low cut dress was designed by Brandon Maxwell, as they posed for photographs along with her fellow crooner Tony Bennett.

Diminutive Gaga was the first to place her arm around Harry’s waist to pull him in for a photograph but the prince was quick to oblige and leant over to include Tony Bennett in the shot.

Harry was at the Royal Albert Hall for a special one-off concert in aid of WellChild, a national charity for seriously ill children and their families he has been patron of since 2007.

The organisation is committed to ensuring that every child in the UK, no matter what their situation, location or diagnosis, has the best possible quality of care.

As well as meeting the performers on arrival, the 30-year-old prince attended a short reception for supporters of WellChild, before hosting nurses and families who have benefitted from the charity in the Royal Box to watch the performance.

Gaga is one of the biggest selling female singers of all time but is equally famed for her eccentric style of dressing with outfits which have included one made of of raw steak.

The 29-year-old musician has teamed up the legendary 88-year-old crooner Tony Bennett on a collaborative Grammy award-winning jazz album Cheek To Cheek.

A proportion of the profits from the royal performance are to be given to Harry’s chosen charity.

 

As Harry was introduced to Lady Gaga, who thanked her for supporting the charity, she said:’ We think you are fantastic.’

But the prince was quick to oblige and leant over to include Tony Bennett in the shot

Discussing how they collaborated on their new jazz album Cheek To Cheek, Bennett said: ‘I heard her personally and said we have to get together.’

Harry told the 88-year-old: ‘I can’t believe you have the energy, I don’t know how you do it.’

Gaga, 29, replied: ‘He runs circles around me.

‘Wait until we get on stage.’

Mr Bennett then told Harry: ‘Your mum was a good friend of mine.

‘I did many benefits with her.’

Harry replied: ‘That’s fantastic.’

When Harry pointed out that it was a shame more of children helped by the charity couldn’t be there because of the late start time, Lady Gaga offered to come and meet them another day.

Harry then met two teens who have benefited from WellChild’s support, as well as staff, nurses and donors to the charity at a reception before the event.

Flynne Ewart-Biggs, 15, from North London, who has been having treatment for a brain tumour for 18-months, spent the evening in the royal box next to Harry with her WellChild nurse Diane Miles.

Flynne said: ‘Harry was a nice guy and it was fairly easy to talk to him.

‘He asked me if I like Lady Gaga.

‘He didn’t say he was a fan but I’m sure he is.

‘I don’t know if I’ll get up and dance in the royal box.

‘WellChild make it a whole lot easier to have the treatment, they’ll do my bloods and check-ups.

‘I just pop round and Diane (WellChild nurse) is like a friend.’

Her mother Katherine Bonner added: ‘Harry seems to have a really good understanding of the charity.’

Abby Gardner, 17, from Clacton-on-sea, has rare genetic condition Wolfram syndrome which causes diabetes, vision problems and hearing problems.

She said: ‘It’s nice to be able to meet him to say thank you for everything because he’s patron of WellChild.’

WellChild Chief Executive Colin Dyer said: ‘WellChild is thrilled that Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett are supporting WellChild through this concert.

‘The proceeds will be a massive boost to our work to support seriously ill children and their families across the UK.’

WellChild chairman John Evans added about Harry: ‘He’s incredibly impressive with the children. ‘He gets down on his knees to get down to their level.’
