10 Brutal & Bloody Scenes That Made Echo The First R-Rated MCU Show

Marvel’s Echo features a collection of brutal and bloody scenes that earn its unique status as the MCU’s first R-rated streaming series.

Marvel’s Echo has a wide collection of brutal and bloody scenes that earn its unique status as the MCU’s first R-rated streaming series. Starring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez and Vincent D’onofrio as Kingpin, Echo sees Maya embracing her family’s legacy while rejecting the darker one that was thrust upon her by Wilson Fisk who was once seen as her uncle. To that end, Echo features several intense moments as Maya uses her deadly skills combined with Kingpin’s brutal rage.

Across Echo’s five episodes, Maya and Fisk find themselves locked in a bitter rivalry. The show also features Maya’s past when she was one of Kingpin’s agents prior to the events of Marvel’s Hawkeye when she learned the truth that Fisk had her father killed. To that end, here are 10 of the most brutal and bloody moments from Marvel’s Echo series.

11Echo’s Flashback Car Crash

Marvel’s Echo Episode 1

Marvel’s Echo opens with a flashback to Maya’s childhood when she lost both her leg and her mother in a car crash. To that end, the trauma is particularly evident as young Maya wakes up to find her mother deceased with her face covered in blood. Unfortunately, violence, loss, and pain would come to define Maya’s life growing up, especially after the death of her father where she was then taken in under the care of Wilson Fisk.

10Kingpin’s Mole Shoots Guard

Marvel’s Echo Episode 1

Having joined Kingpin’s operation during the Blip, Maya meets up with two of Fisk’s men on a mission to raid a rival armory. Upon knocking on the guarded door, it’s revealed that Fisk already had a man on the inside who promptly shoots his fellow guard in the head, his blood spattering against the wall. This allows Maya and the rest of Fisk’s men to catch the entire group of rival criminals by surprise.

9Maya Breaks Thug’s Neck

Marvel’s Echo Episode 1

Although Maya initially froze during the major fight sequence in Echo episode 1, getting attacked by one of thugs generates her fighting instincts. To that end, Maya viciously snaps said thug’s neck with an audible cracking sound before she moves into the rest of the room. It’s a key moment for Maya, showing her dark origins as she becomes highly favored by Fisk, especially after she went toe-to-toe with Daredevil himself during his brief Echo cameo.

8Maya’s First Mission For Kingpin

Marvel’s Echo Episode 1

As seen during the entire fight sequence in Echo’s premiere, Maya gets even more intense from the moment she truly enters the fight, kicking a metal chair into the head of one thug before knocking the teeth out of another by slamming his head into a desk. She also makes brutal use of her prosthetic leg while continually punching the last thug into a metal filing cabinet.

7Maya’s Bullet Wound

Marvel’s Echo Episode 1

Once Echo’s premiere catches up to the present, Maya is seen outside of New York, having left the city after she shot Kingpin at the end of Hawkeye after she learned Fisk had her father killed. Heading to Oklahoma, Maya is featured enduring an open gunshot wound in her side that’s continually opening and bleeding. To that end, she doesn’t get stitched up until she makes it to Tamaha.

5Victor Tyson Chokes To Death On His Own Blood

Marvel’s Echo Episode 3

Once Fisk’s men catch up to Maya in Tamaha, Victor Tyson attempts to claim the bounty after he manages to capture both Maya and her cousin Bonnie in the skating rink. However, Fisk’s man Zane shoots Victor in the back, causing him to flip over and land on his back. This lead to Victor choking on his own blood right in front of Bonnie, a truly dark and horrifying moment that proves how dark Maya’s life has become growing up in New York.

4Maya Cracks Thug’s Skull In Skating Rink

Marvel’s Echo Episode 3

Once Maya escapes, she begins taking down Fisk’s men one by one throughout the skating rink. This includes one of the first whom she tackles through a wall before slamming his head down, cracking his skull and likely killing him. Maya then moves on to all the other assembled criminals who’d been sent to bring her in, especially after she was responsible for blowing up a key armory belonging to Fisk in New York.

3Maya’s Bloody Arcade Sequence

Marvel’s Echo Episode 3

One of the most creative sequences in Marvel’s Echo is in the skating rink’s arcade. It’s also one of the most vicious. Not only does Maya kick a man into using her prosthetic leg (resulting in a spray of blood), she also slams another one headfirst into the glass of a pinball machine before moving on to the gunslinger game, turning the attached shooters into whips before throwing heavy Skee balls directly at the heads of three more thugs. She also uses one of the criminals as a human shield who takes all the incoming gunfire in the back.

2Kingpin Beats An Ice Cream Vendor To Death

Marvel’s Echo Episode 4

Marvel’s Echo episode 4 features a key flashback to Fisk when Maya was still a child living in New York. Confronting an ice cream vendor who verbally mistreated Maya, Fisk pulls the man into a nearby alley before beating him senseless thanks to Kingpin’s dangerous and uncontrollable rage. The image of blood spattered across Fisk’s face, hands, and white suit was a major draw used in the promotions for Echo, though the actual episode proves it was a key moment where Fisk truly began caring for Maya as she wasn’t afraid of him despite the carnage.

1Kingpin Has Interpreter Shot

Marvel’s Echo Episode 4

Flashing forward to the Blip, Fisk ends Maya’s “training” by dismissing the interpreter he’d hired to help him communicate with Maya. Claiming that he and Maya were the only ones the other could trust, the interpreter gets shot by Fisk’s men around the corner of his penthouse. Likewise, her body and blood were cleaned up rather quickly as Fisk and Maya began their new partnership with her captaining the Tracksuit Mafia (as seen in Hawkeye).
