Kim shut down her makeup brand KKW Beauty in August 2021 and her perfume brand KKW Fragrance in May 2022 – with the intention of relaunching them under a new umbrella brand.
At the time, she had not yet announced her SKKN brand; she launched SKKN on June 21, 2022 – over a month after KKW Fragrance shut down on May 1, 2022.
She filed a trademark for a skincare line called SKKN in March 2021, over a year before it launched in June 2022.
In April 2022, Kim clarified that she was not rebranding her beauty and fragrance line due to her split from Kanye West, but rather with the customer in mind.
The businesswoman said the reason behind it all was because she felt bad about the customer having to pay shipping costs at three different websites – KKW Fragrance, KKW Beauty and a potential third one she was planning on opening – skin care focused brand.

On April 1, 2022, announced KKW Fragrance was shutting down on May 1, 2022 in order to relaunch it under a new name as well alongside her beauty brands
She revealed why during her Kim sit down interview with Amanda Hirsch in April 2022 for her Dear Media podcast, Not Skinny But Not Fat.
Podcast host Amanda asked her about her shifting her brands from the KKW name and asked for hints on what the new name will be.
Kim said: ‘I will say that it happened before. Everyone thinks like, oh my God, its just to get the W off. That’s not it. What I really wanted to do was I felt so bad that the customer had to go from KKW Beauty, then we’d go to KKW Skin [which was not yet available and still has not been released] then would go to KKW Fragrance.’
Adding that the customer then would have to deal with ‘shipping costs at three different websites.’
‘I felt so bad,’ noting that then if they wanted to purchase items from her loungewear and intimates brand Skims, it would be another shipping cost.
Her plan she said was to have all of her beauty products – skin, makeup and fragrance – under one umbrella [which she now revealed to be under her SKKN brand] with her Skims as a separate brand.
‘It’ll just be my beauty brand’ where customers can find all beauty items, adding that it is ‘like starting my own’ new makeup brand from scratch.
‘Like a new brand and that makes me so happy. It’s just… I love the process of the whole thing of starting something new,’ Kim said.
