By doing so, he aimed to prevent the government from capturing them all at once and to buy them time to regroup and prepare for the New World. In Kuma’s view, the Straw Hat pirates came too early and did not yet possess what it takes to venture into the dangerous sea of the New World.

The Straw Hat pirates wreaked havoc on every Island they went to, and it always met the displeasure of the World Government. When Luffy punched a Celestial Dragon, Kuma was present, and the act bewildered him as it reminded him of the selfless Sun God Nika, who is against any form of oppression. Knowing the dangers of Luffy’s treasonous offense of harming a Celestial Dragon, Kuma sent the Straw Hat pirates to different islands for their safety.

Particularly, his desire to send Luffy to Amazon Lily was to hide him where the World Government least expected. Amazon Lily is an isolated island inhabited by the Kuja tribe, a society of mighty female warriors. On this woman’s Island is an empress and warlord who hates men, and even the Marines of the World Government tremble at her feet. The World Government wouldn’t have foreseen that Luffy would be on the Island because of its historical factor and powerful empress.

To Prepare Luffy For The New World

The second hand of Pirate King Roger, Silver Rayleigh, was the one who informed Luffy that his crew members were safe. Kuma passes this information to Rayleigh to connect him with Luffy. With Rayleigh’s combat abilities and experience, he is more than suitable to prepare Luffy for the dangers of the New World. Rayleigh, being a former member of the Roger Pirates, saved Boa Hancock from slavery in the past, and his wife, who was a former empress of the Kuja tribe, elucidates the reason for Rayleigh’s acceptance on the Island.

On Amazon Lily, Rayleigh taught Luffy haki, an essential ability to survive the New World. By sending Luffy to the Island, Luffy had the opportunity to learn about Haki and strengthen his abilities, which have been crucial in the battles in the New World. Kuma’s backstory shows he is a man of integrity and foresightedness. He sent the Straw Hat members to locations where they could hone their skills and abilities for the great adventure. Kuma was preparing Luffy for the New World and his crew members, who would be his shield in dire moments. The Paw Paw man test for Zoro at Thriller Bark was a moment that shows that he only wants to help Luffy be great on the sea. Hence, Luffy’s venture to Amazon Lily was just a means to equip him with all he needed to conquer the sea.

To Forge A Future Alliance

As the series enters the final saga, and with the revelation on Egghead Island, the final battle will inevitably shake the world of One Piece. Hence, with Hancock’s infatuation with Luffy, there is no doubt that the Kuja tribe will always be on the Straw Hats’ side. Perhaps Kuma forsee this alliance, or maybe the ex-warlord has a deeper connection to the Kuja tribe or their leader, Boa Hancock, which is still a mystery. However, the fact that Kuma sent Luffy to the Island for an alliance cannot be ruled out. It is not far-fetched to speculate that Kuma’s actions were not only for Luffy’s benefit but also to establish an alliance between the Straw Hat Pirates and the Kuja tribe, which could prove valuable in the future of One Piece.
