Life imitated art at the Saturday (Jan. 13) Kansas City Chiefs game, where Taylor Swift — the same woman who sings “You keep my old scarf from that very first week/ ‘Cause it reminds you of innocence and it smells like me” on “All Too Well” — gifted her scarf to a fan at Arrowhead Stadium.
The sweet moment was shared between the 34-year-old pop star and Beth Vancil, who both braced freezing temperatures to attend the Chiefs’ playoffs game against the Miami Dolphins. Swift was in her usual box suite seat next to Brittany Mahomes, who is married to Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes, to cheer on her boyfriend, tight end Travis Kelce.
Partway through the Chiefs’ 26-7 victory, Swift apparently realized that Vancil — who was seated in the stands right in front of the “Anti-Hero” singer’s suite — needed a scarf a lot more than she did. So she took the one she was wearing around her own neck and passed it to the St. Louis resident.
“During the game, Taylor coined me as her ‘good luck charm,’ noticed my face was bright red and gave me her scarf,” Vancil recalled to People. “The scarf smelled like home.”
The lucky Swiftie also shared with TODAY.com that the pop superstar was very easy to talk to. “Taylor was so down to earth,” Vancil told the publication, adding that the star was just another “normal” Chiefs fan — and one you could joke with. “I turned around, and I said, ‘For some reason, Taylor, people keep taking pictures of me, and I’m not sure why,’” she joked to TODAY.com. “She’s like, ‘You know, I have no idea.’”
Vancil shared a number of photos and videos with Swift to Instagram, including a selfie with the 12-time Grammy winner and Ms. Mahomes. “We came, we saw, we conquered,” she captioned the post. “We swag surfed with Donna [Kelce], Taylor and Brittany and Taylor gave me her scarf (it was not red and she doesn’t want it back).”
Saturday’s match is one of several Chiefs games Swift has attended this season since making her relationship with Kelce public. If the team does well these next few weeks, she may even make an appearance as a guest at this year’s Super Bowl in February.
Brittany Mahomes also shared several pictures with the “Karma” musician after the Chiefs-Dolphins match, showing off the two friends’ matching jackets and writing, “Twinning & Winning.”
