Get ready to swoon.
Tom Holland is laying those Zendaya breakup rumors to rest.
Despite the extreme public interest in their relationship, both Zendaya and Tom Holland have carefully guarded their privacy as a couple, rarely mentioning each other in interviews outside of their shared projects. The pair, of course, met while filming their first Spider-Man movie in 2016, though they didn’t get together until 2021.
So imagine my surprise when Holland dropped Zendaya’s name unprompted during a red-carpet interview at the Critics Choice Awards. When asked whether he watches his own work, the Marvel star shared that he is his own “best critic” and tries to avoid his projects after they’ve come out…with one exception.
“Zendaya and I will, every now and then, watch Spider-Man 1 and reminisce about being 19 and making those movies again,” the actor told Extra on January 14. “I love those movies, and I love savoring those moments, so I try not to watch them as often as I would maybe like to because it’s so special. It’s such a luxury, such a gift to be able to sit down and sort of relive your youth.”
He continued, “I wouldn’t be the man I am today without that job and I’m so grateful and excited for the future and what it might hold.”
Of course, the reporter followed up by asking whether the pair sat down together to watch his latest series, The Crowded Room. “She watched this series with me while we were editing it—I would send her episodes and asked her what she thought, so she definitely has seen it more times than I would have expected her to see it,” he said, noting that he hasn’t rewatched the series since it was released in June.
Believe it or not, that’s quite a lot of Zendaya talk for Tom Holland. “Our relationship is something that we are incredibly protective of and we want to keep as sacred as possible,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2023. “We don’t think that we owe it to anyone, it’s our thing, and it has nothing to do with our careers.”
Perhaps he still feels compelled to assuage fan concerns after the Euphoria star unfollowed everyone on Instagram earlier this month, including her boyfriend of nearly three years. “Absolutely not,” Holland told paparazzi when asked about breakup rumors on January 12. Clearly, there’s nothing to worry about.
