Britney Spears’ 2011 song “Selfish” is flying up the music charts as fans stream and buy the deep cut in hopes that it will outsell her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake’s new single of the same name.
Britney Spears’ 2011 song “Selfish” is climbing up the music charts.
Spears’ little-known track from the deluxe edition of her album “Femme Fatale” entered the Top 40 of the US iTunes chart Thursday, the same day Timberlake released the first offering from his forthcoming LP, “Everything I Thought It Was.”
Spears’ “Selfish” reached No. 1 by Friday afternoon as Timberlake’s fell from the top spot to No. 3.
The Britney Army has had beef with the former *NSYNC member since he infamously called out the Princess of Pop for cheating on him in his 2002 hit “Cry Me a River.”
However, Timberlake, 42, faced renewed backlash last year when Spears, also 42, revealed in her memoir, “The Woman in Me,” that she had an abortion during their relationship because he “definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy.”

After the bombshell made headlines, Spears’ legion of fans flooded Timberlake’s Instagram comments, leading him to disable the feature.
The “Mirrors” crooner and his wife, Jessica Biel, then fled to Mexico with their two sons, Silas, 8, and Phineas, 3, to get away from the drama.
Timberlake has not publicly addressed his ex’s bestselling book, though he declared during a concert in Las Vegas last month that he meant “no disrespect” with “Cry Me a River.”

“Selfish” is the former boy bander’s first solo single since 2018’s “SoulMate.”
Spears, meanwhile, wrote on Instagram earlier this month that she “will never return to the music industry” following the trauma she endured during her 13-year conservatorship.
However, sources have told Page Six exclusively that the “Crossroads” star’s team remains hopeful that she will change her tune, even going so far as to tap songwriters including Charli XCX and Julia Michaels to put together a potential new album.
