‘Absolutely False’: Erin Moriarty from ‘The Boys’ Responds to Plastic Surgery Allegations, Temporarily Deactivates Instagram.

“Horrified” by plastic surgery claims, The Boys star Erin Moriarty has announced her departure from social media.

Erin Moriarty is looking to set the record straight on “false news” about her supposed plastic surgery.

Moriarty, known for her role as Starlight on The Boys, took to Instagram to share her reaction to former Fox News personality Megyn Kelly criticizing her for allegedly having plastic surgery work done at such a young age. Denying that she’s ever had any kind of plastic surgery work done, Moriarty said that Kelly pushing this untrue narrative was “bullying.” As a public figure, Moriarty explained that she always expects to see some kind of negative comments with any subtle change to her physical appearance. Even so, she was not prepared for Kelly using her platform to further push the plastic surgery rumors, which she did by comparing two images of Moriarty and criticizing her appearance.

“This is something I truly never anticipated writing. We’re all subject to levels of bullying throughout our lives but I am horrified, and I felt that I deserved to take a second to address these things,” Moriarty wrote. “To receive a message about a disgustingly false, counterproductive to the degree of being ironically misogynistic video of Megyn Kelly commenting on the manner – to learn the widespread nature of this has left me horrified. Megyn used a photo taken ‘a year ago’ according to her, that had in actuality been taken about a decade ago before I was of LEGAL DRINKING AGE (I’m about to turn 30) as an example. How utterly misinformed, inaccurate, and clickbait seeking people who we follow and consider to be informed is appalling.”

Moriarty then explained that the “after” photo that was used was taken on a day she’d had her makeup done, which involved “major contouring,” as she was stressed at the time and just hoping to feel better. She observed at the time some negative comments online, but with Megyn Kelly further spreading the plastic surgery rumors, it’s now gone too far. As Moriarty said, “I saw the comments, scathing enough to just turn my comments off. But this is becoming harassment. This is becoming false news.

The Starlight actor then announced that she was leaving Instagram, though she was leaving her account activated, so her statement would remain behind. While she saw social media as her way of connecting with her fans, she found herself too “horrified by the reaction, the reductive assumptions, and the aforementioned video that is a primary example of such harassment.” She continued, “It’s broken my heart. You’ve broken my heart. You’ve lost the privilege of this account.”

“I have been in a hole and I’ve been consumed by this personal situation at hand,” Moriarty concluded. “You never know what someone is going through, social media is a platform that is not representative of a whole person, and irregardless there is no excuse for the words that have been spoken directly to me or about me. Shame on you Megyn Kelly. Shame on you, Fox News (vought incarnate). Implying that my photo is reflective of women being in a worse place is as false as my conviction in saying that if you resigned, you would be leaving women in a better place.

In the caption, Moriarty clarified that Megyn Kelly is no longer with Fox News, as the Boys star didn’t want to “be the one who is reporting false information.” She also garnered some support from her co-stars of The Boys. Chace Crawford, who plays The Deep, responded with a heart emoji. Hughie Campbell actor Jack Quaid also wrote, “Love you, Erin. F*** the haters.”

Megyn Kelly Criticized Erin Moriarty in a YouTube Video

On Jan. 17, Megyn Kelly addressed Erin Moriarty’s physical appearance for an edition of the podcast The Megyn Kelly ShowKelly claimed that Moriarty “decided to completely change her face,” proceeding to speculate that she’d had work done on her lips, nose, and cheeks. Kelly remarked how there appeared to be a rise in people getting plastic surgery at such a young age, stating of the situation, “It’s not about an objection to plastic surgery. It’s about an obsession with turning yourself into this fake version of yourself… I find it a sign of mental illness.”

Moriarty’s full statement can be read on Instagram.
