Kim Kardashian to Produce and Star in Upcoming Docuseries About Elizabeth Taylor: ‘She Paved the Way’

Kardashian, who was the last person to interview Taylor before she died, praised the actress for being “unapologetically herself” and “a fighter” in a press release about the new series

Kim Kardashian is gearing up to tell the story of Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor.

In a press release on Monday, BBC Arts announced that it commissioned a three-part docuseries about Taylor from the production company Passion Pictures.

Per the release, Kardashian, 43, will executive produce the series, which is tentatively titled Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar, alongside Kari Lia and Hamish Fergusson.

“Elizabeth Taylor was unapologetically herself, a fighter,” Kardashian said of the Oscar-winning actress in a statement. “She is proof that you can keep evolving and changing and have different chapters in your life – and she paved the way for all of us who came after her with that blueprint.”

The series “will feature privileged access to those who knew her best, including members of Elizabeth Taylor’s family, friends, and colleagues from throughout her stellar career,” the announcement said.

It will also take viewers on the ride of Taylor’s transformative journey from a child star to the “highest-paid actress in the world” and will provide a new angle to her story through “never-before-heard audio tapes, interviews, and unseen TV footage.”

Kardashian is featured in the series because she was the person who conducted the last interview Taylor did before she died of congestive heart failure at the age of 79 on March 23, 2011.

Taylor appeared in her first movie, the comedy There’s One Born Every Minute in 1942 at the age of 9. Throughout her decades-long career, she was nominated for an Academy Award in the best actress category five times and won the honor twice — in 1961 for her performance in the drama BUtterfield 8 and again in 1967 for her work in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

But Taylor’s personal life was also tabloid fodder throughout her career. She was married eight times throughout her life to seven different men, and struggled with addiction.

In its statement about the upcoming series, BBC arts promised that Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar will give the actress “the significance she richly deserves, in all her incarnations: as an actor, rebel, business mogul, and activist – to reveal how Taylor created the blueprint for modern celebrity.”

“A unique talent and true luminary, we’re hugely excited to explore her extraordinary life and enduring legacy,” said Fergusson.

The series, distributed internationally by Fremantle, is currently in production and will air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
