Zendaya is preserving the memory of her Euphoria co-star Angus Cloud, who tragically passed away at 25 last week. On Wednesday, the 26-year-old Emmy Award-winner posted a photo of a mural created in Angus’ honor in his hometown of Oakland, California. Friends of the late actor painted this tribute, and it became the focal point of a candlelight vigil held on Friday, August 4. The mural depicts a smiling Angus along with several tributes reflecting the positive influence he still holds within his community.
Zendaya shared a picture of a street sign with ‘No Love Fades’ sprayed in white paint. Whether this artwork is related to Angus remains uncertain. It’s also unclear if Zendaya personally visited the mural or if she reposted photos taken by others. Angus passed away at 25 on Monday, July 31, at his family’s Oakland, California home, following struggles related to his father’s loss, as revealed by his family to TMZ. His mother, who made the 911 call, reported it as a ‘possible overdose.’
Zendaya broke her silence on Angus’ untimely death by posting an emotional tribute on Instagram on Tuesday, August 1. ‘Words are inadequate to capture the immense beauty that was Angus (Conor). I’m profoundly thankful I had the opportunity to know him in this lifetime, to consider him a brother, to witness his warm, kind eyes and radiant smile, and to hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I’m smiling now just thinking of it).’ The actress continued, ‘Though the phrase “they could light up any room they entered” is often used for loved ones, let me tell you, he was exceptional at it. I’d like to remember him in that manner – for his unending light, love, and joy that he consistently shared with us. I’ll hold onto every moment.’
She concluded: ‘My heart is with his mother and family at this time and please be kind and patient as grief looks different for everyone.’ Their co-star Sydney Sweeney posted her tribute soon after Zendaya posted hers, calling him an ‘open soul’ with ‘the kindest heart’ and ‘You filled every room with laughter.’
Zendaya expressed her condolences by adding black hearts under Sydney’s post. Angus, whose full name is Conor Angus Cloud (named after his father, Conor Cloud), portrayed the character Fezco on Euphoria from 2019 to 2022. On the show, Zendaya plays Ruby ‘Rue’ Bennett, while Sydney portrays Cassie Howard. Angus’ family announced his passing through TMZ, revealing he died at his family’s Oakland home on Monday. Following the burial of his father in Ireland the previous week, he had been grappling with ‘severe suicidal thoughts.’ The actor was staying with his family to cope with his grief, according to the outlet.
Around 11:30 am on Monday, July 31, Angus’s mother called 911, reporting a ‘possible overdose.’ The Oakland PD and Fire Department responded, finding no pulse. Angus was pronounced dead at the scene. His family confirmed his passing in a statement that day. Angus openly talked about his mental health struggles, and they hope his passing reminds others they’re not alone in their battles.
Conor Hickey passed away on May 18 at age 65 following a ‘brief fight with cancer’, a social media post reshared by his mother Lisa detailed . Sharing photos of his memorial service in another post, Lisa wrote: ‘He would have been so honored that so many young people came to express how much they appreciated their support from him. ‘My fella lived large and loud! His cancer moved quickly which was devastating to all who loved him, but there is comfort in the fact that his pain wasn’t prolonged.’
Conor (pictured above) passed away in his homeland of Ireland. An obituary composed by members of a rugby club, with which he had an affiliation, noted his passing ‘after a short illness.’ Both Lisa and Conor were university professors. While originally from Ireland, they moved to California in the 80s. The couple had three children: eldest Angus, followed by twin daughters Molly and Fiona Hickey. In one of his final social media posts, Angus paid tribute to his late father on Instagram. On July 14, he shared an emotional picture of his father in a red hoodie and red sweats, captioning it with ‘Miss u breh.’
Tributes quickly flooded in for the actor from Euphoria producers, castmates, and fellow actors. ‘He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. ‘We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time.’ Angus was one of the breakout stars of Euphoria, appearing in both series of the Sam Levinson-directed drama alongside Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi. He was most often in scenes alongside his partner in crime Ashtray, played by Javon Walton. Sharing a picture of the pair on Instagram, Javon wrote: ‘Rest easy brother’ and later ‘forever family.’
Euphoria director Sam conveyed, ‘Angus was truly one of a kind. Exceptionally talented and gone far too early. He, like many of us, faced battles with addiction and depression. I hope he felt the impact he had on so many hearts. I cherished him. Always will. Rest in peace, and may his family find solace.’ Rapper Drake, a producer of Euphoria, shared a photo from March 2022 at the Revolve Social Club in LA, captioning it with ‘Good soul,’ along with a tearful emoji and a dove.
