The Straw Hats’ Next Stop Means One Piece Will Be Very Different In Season 2

One Piece season 2 should be very different from the first season considering where Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat pirates are going next.

Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat pirates are exiting the East Blue and heading into an exciting new portion of the world, meaning that One Piece season 2 will be very different from the live-action adaptation’s first season. Netflix’s One Piece season 1 successfully reimagined the world of the hit manga into a live-action series, bringing the Straw Hat pirates to life in an exciting way. The show broke the live-action anime adaptation curse and delivered something that worked for both fans and new audiences, which is why One Piece was renewed for season 2.

One of the most exciting things about Netflix’s One Piece returning for a new season is the fact that Luffy will now face far more dangerous threats compared to the villains of East Blue. It is common for new One Piece audiences to complain about the pacing of the East Blue saga, and that is because most of the manga’s greatest stories only happen after the Straw Hats enter the Grand Line. Fortunately, this will happen soon on the Netflix show, setting up season 2 to be even better than the first season.

The Straw Hats Will Enter The Grand Line In One Piece Season 2

One Piece season 1 covered the East Blue saga

One Piece season 1 ends with the Straw Hat pirates all announcing their dreams in front of a barrel as they sail toward the biggest adventure of their lives – navigating the Grand Line. All of One Piece’s first season took place in the East Blue, one of the four sea quadrants of that world. Luffy spent most of the season telling others he was heading to the Grand Line, although he did not have a map and could barely orientate himself. The map of the Grand Line served as a MacGuffin in season 1, as several characters were after it.

That said, the map of the Grand Line is much more than just a story device, especially considering where One Piece’s story goes next. The Straw Hats should enter the Grand Line right at the beginning of season 2 based on how their journey plays out in the manga, particularly after they encounter the Reverse Mountain. Everything should be different after Luffy and his friends enter the Grand Line, from the threats they will face to the number of locations they will visit. Compared to the scope of One Piece season 1, season 2 will be much bigger.

What Exactly Is The Grand Line In One Piece

One Piece’s best stories happen in the Grand Line

The Grand Line is a horizontal stretch of ocean that, combined with the vertical Red Line, divides the world’s sea into four quadrants – the East, North, South, and West Blue. The Grand Line is where the biggest and strongest pirates as well as the most dangerous islands can be found, which is why it is such an important element of the One Piece world. The most powerful opponents Luffy can run into are in the Grand Line, not to mention how the One Piece is said to be at the end of it.

One Piece season 2 will likely feel much bigger than the first season, which is exciting considering the cinematic quality of the show.

However, navigating through the Grand Line is extremely complicated. Known as a pirate graveyard, the Grand Line is full of treacherous routes and islands from where people never return. Although there are also regular, civilian people living in peace on several of the islands located in the Grand Line, not many pirates can go there and live to tell the story. Those who do and return in safety often avoid going back there, as seen with the starving pirate Sanji fed in One Piece season 1. This is why having a detailed map will be very important to Luffy’s crew.
