The Bad Blood hitmaker who took to the stage at the Tokyo Dome for her first of four shows in a row this week, announced her new record, The Tortured Poets Department, during her Grammys acceptance speech on Sunday.
While in Tokyo — where she nearly fell off a chair during a steamy performance — she told fans: ‘Everyone’s like, “Why do you make so many albums?” I’m like, “Man, because I love it! I love it so much!”‘
‘I’m having fun, leave me alone!’ Swift — who received backlash for seemingly ignoring Celine Dion at the Grammys — added.
The star also revealed that the work on the new record began right after she finished last album Midnights in 2022.
‘I’ve been working on Tortured Poets since right after I turned in Midnights.’
‘You turn in an album months in advance so you can make vinyls, which are the best. So, I started working on it immediately after that and I’ve been working on it for about two years.’
She also shared that if she hadn’t won a Grammy on Sunday, she planned to announce the new album at the first Tokyo concert.
‘I thought “If I’m lucky enough to get a Grammy… I’m just gonna do it’… My backup plan was I was gonna do it tonight in Tokyo.’

‘I kept working on it throughout the US tour, and when it was perfect in my opinion, when it was good enough for you, I finished it,’ she went on.
‘I am so, so excited that soon you’ll get to hear it. Soon we’ll get to experience that together, and I’m just like, I’m over the moon the fact that you guys care about my music. It still blows my mind.’
‘I love doing this. I know I keep saying that, but that’s because it’s true.’
The Tortured Poets Department is set to come out on April 19th.
Her last album Midnights was released in 2022, marking her tenth original studio album.

However, Taylor, clad in a midnight blue leotard, misjudged the chair’s position and was seen stumbling before regaining her composure.
Fans quickly took to social media to laud the star for avoiding catastrophe onstage, writing: ‘she’s been doing her squats bc i would’ve fallen right on my a**’
Another penned: ‘Her thighs probably so strong that she could sit like that without the chair for the whole song.’
