While Elizabeth Olsen is very proud of her work as Wanda Maximoff in the MCU, she is getting a bit tired of just being known as the Scarlet Witch and wants to balance it out by taking on the challenge of other roles.
Speaking to The Times, Olsen spoke honestly about what it’s like being part of the MCU since 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The MCU is obviously one of the most popular universes in pop culture, and there are many people in the world who only associate Olsen with Wanda. This isn’t ideal for her and she wants to play other characters that can stand toe-to-toe with the Scarlet Witch.
“I’m trying to figure out… Because, specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel,” Olsen said. I don’t want… It’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character. But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance. I so much want to do films right now. And I hope some of them come together in the way I feel like they can. But yeah, that’s something that I need. I just need more, other characters in my life. There’s no longevity in one character.”

She has had other roles since becoming Wanda, including Elle Brody in Godzilla, Taylor Sloane in Ingrid Goes West, Leigh Shaw in Sorry for Your Loss, and Candy Montgomery in Love & Death. She is also set to star in His Three Daughters alongside Carrie Coon and Natasha Lyonne.
This isn’t the first time Olsen has spoken about her time in the MCU, as she admitted to being “frustrated” by lost opportunities due to her Marvel commitments.
However, she hasn’t closed the door on her returning to the MCU following her appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Alongside saying she expects she’ll be part of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, she previously said she wants redemption for Scarlet Witch and she would love to see Wanda team up with the X-Men.
