Ravens’ Kyle Hamilton, Odell Beckham Jr. fined for unnecessary roughness vs. Titans

The NFL has issued a $20,524 fine to Kyle Hamilton and a combined $33,317 fine to Odell Beckham Jr. for their unnecessary roughness violations during the Week 6 matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Tennessee Titans, according to the league’s accountability website.

Hamilton was ejected during the third quarter of the Ravens’ win over the Titans. The second-year safety delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit to Titans wide receiver Chris Moore in the red zone. While it looked as if Moore was going to haul in a much-needed catch for Tennessee, he lost possession of the football after being on the end of a head-first hit from Hamilton.

Moore was a bit slow to get up after the play, but he managed to make his way to the locker room on his own power. He was later ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

Hamilton, who was issued a game disqualification for the first time in his career, said following the Ravens’ eight-point win that he was not trying to injure the veteran wideout.

“I was playing [in] the middle [of the field], playing post,” Hamilton said after the game. “Had eyes on the quarterback, I saw him throw the ball, [I was] driving on the ball and then turned to look at the receiver [for a] split second. [I] hit him, tried to get the ball out. He came up, shaken up, unfortunately, so praying for him. Hopefully, he’s doing well.

“Hopefully he’s back in a week or whenever he comes back. But yes, nothing malicious about it from my perspective. I wasn’t trying to hurt him. I wasn’t trying to do anything bad. I was just trying to get the ball out.”

Hamilton also noted that he “knew it was a flag,” but the officiating crew did not offer him an explanation for just why he was removed from the game.

Beckham, on the other hand, was fined twice for unnecessary roughness violations against the Titans. For one, he was handed a $11,473 fine for kneeing Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons during the second quarter of the contest. This all came after Beckham appeared to take exception at how Simmons dove at Zay Flowers’ right leg on the rookie’s 4-yard reception. On Simmons’ part, he was fined $11,473 for his post-play altercation with the three-time Pro Bowler.

Overall, a total of five Ravens players were fined for game-related rules violations against the Titans.

The Ravens will next be in action in Week 7 with a home clash against the Detroit Lions.
