Aussie world champ Ebanie Bridges opens up on her growing relationship with Conor McGregor – and explains why

Ebanie Bridges has revealed she has a special surprise planned for boxing fans when she returns to the ring this weekend to defend her IBF world bantamweight title – and opened up about her ties to UFC superstar Conor McGregor.

The Blonde Bomber has been out of action this year owing to a hand injury, but is set to return on the undercard of Devin Haney vs Regis Prograis in San Francisco.

She also believes she’s set for life after boxing thanks to her business ties to McGregor.

Bridges will square off with former junior bantamweight world champion Miyo Yoshida, who replaces Australian contender Avril Mathie.

The former Sydney maths teacher was disappointed that Mathie – a former swimwear model – had to pull out of the fight Bridges had dubbed ‘The Battle of the Boobs’.

‘Avril pulled out a couple of weeks ago, and this is about the fourth opponent we’ve gone through,’ Bridges told Daily Mail Australia.

The Blonde Bomber is well known for her weigh-ins and says she has a special outfit planned for this weekend’s fight

‘We’ve had opponents say yes and then get the contract and go missing. It doesn’t change a lot. I’m still going to go in there and fight my fight.

‘I hope fans will get to see ‘The Battle of the Boobs’ but I’ll probably have to fight my mandatory [opponent] in March and then on to unification, so maybe later on.

The world champion is arguably best known for her eye-catching weigh-in outfits and Bridges says she has something in store for fans this weekend.

‘I always have a special weigh-in outfit planned,’ she said.

Bridges says there’s a good chance she could also beat Yoshida by stoppage, but she’s not promising fans anything in that department.

‘I definitely can knock her out,’ said Bridges. ‘I have the power. But I’ve prepared to go the distance.

‘She’s an ex-world-champion and she’s Japanese  – and they’re really, really tough.’

The Aussie says she is anticipating a tough fight against Yoshida in San Francisco

While Bridges was recovering from surgery she became one of the faces of UFC icon Conor McGregor’s Forged Irish Stout brand.

The 37-year-old has attended fight nights with the UFC superstar, dressed in skimpy promotional attire, and explained that the Irishman is ‘smart’ for choosing to sponsor boxing events.

McGregor has been caught up in controversy over the last few weeks, particularly surrounding the Dublin riots that followed the stabbing of three children and a carer in the city.

The MMA star believes he would have a strong chance of becoming Ireland’s next president and was backed on social media by Elon Musk – with Bridges echoing the sentiment.

‘I think Conor McGregor can do anything he puts his mind to, so it wouldn’t surprise me,’ she revealed.

Bridges also revealed her business relationship with the Irish fighter has gone to the next level.

‘I’m a face for Forged Stout now,’ she told Lucky Block.

‘I can learn a lot from him as well for when I finish boxing – and what he’s doing in business I think is really inspiring.

‘It was natural and we’ll be working together for the remainder of my career … we get on really well.’

Bridges says she wouldn’t be at all surprised if her friend UFC superstar Conor McGregor became the president of Ireland

Bridges believes that the old-school theory that fighters should have a 𝑠e𝑥 ban leading up to fights is a myth

Bridges last fought in December 2022 when she demolished Aussie rival Shannon O’Connell in eight rounds, and the Blonde Bomber says there’s no way she’d step back in the ring with her.

‘Yeah, absolutely not!’ Bridges said.

‘I battered her and I don’t respect her as a person, so I don’t want to give her another chance at a payday. She’s done.’

The Aussie champ is happy with her fight camp and believes she has got herself in good enough shape to go the distance.

However, she does think that the old-school boxing theory that fighters shouldn’t have 𝑠e𝑥 during fight camps is false – at least for women.

‘I think it’s a myth,’ she said.

‘I don’t think it’s a problem for women. I mean, the reality is that it’s the last thing you’d want to do when you get close to a fight. You’re so tired.’
