Hurdles Ahead: Inter Miami’s Interest in Signing Lionel Messi’s Infamous Adversary Comes with a Challenge.

Inter Miami reportedly remain interested in signing Spanish legend Sergio Ramos, though Saudi Arabia could pose a major threat for the Herons.

The 37-year-old defender is one of the biggest figures in the world of European soccer, with Ramos leading Real Madrid to four UEFA Champions League titles and to the Spanish championship five times.

An infamous rival of Lionel Messi’s over the years during the duo’s time in La Liga, Ramos has previously been reported as a target for Inter Miami with the center-back expected to leave Sevilla at the end of this season.

Inter Miami interest in Sergio Ramos despite Saudi Arabia threat

And according to AS, the Herons are back in for Ramos, though interest from Saudi Arabia could stop any plans the MLS franchise have on signing the veteran defender this summer.

Having landed Luis Suarez this winter, Inter Miami are currently maxed out on Designated Players with Messi and Sergio Busquets taking the other two spots.

And given how much Ramos would be earning, the chances of Inter Miami buying down Suarez or Busquets look low, to say the least, with the Herons already dancing around a tight salary cap.

Couple these facts with Saudi Arabia’s looming interest over Ramos, and it’s easy to see why Inter Miami landing the defender looks uncertain, with too many factors already at play.

Lionel Messi could have relished playing alongside former foe again

Having already played together at PSG, Messi and Ramos reuniting once again in Florida would have been quite the prospect, especially with the Argentine now backed by former FC Barcelona teammates.

Indeed, Ramos in MLS would have been quite the sight given the center-back’s age and current physical condition, with the defender looking shaky this season in La Liga with Sevilla.

Yet Ramos at Inter Miami is a prospect that many fans would have wanted to see, with the defender arguably the most famous in his position in soccer this century.
