“Kinds of Kindness” will show if she can score another Oscar nomination for more work with Yorgos Lanthimos.

When a creative partnership clicks, why not stick with it? Emma Stone has already made two films with director Yorgos Lanthimos, netting her an Oscar nomination for The Favourite and a surprising win last Sunday for Poor Things. We’ll soon see if this duo can go three-for-three with the Academy because they already have another movie coming to theaters this summer.
Searchlight Pictures, which also produced Poor Things, announced Thursday that Lanthimos and Stone’s next film will open in theaters on June 21. It is officially titled Kinds of Kindness.
In addition to Stone, other cast members returning from Poor Things include Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. The big-name cast also features Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer. Alwyn previously worked with Stone in The Favourite, but the others are new additions to Lanthimos’ roster.

Not much is known about the subject or plot of Kinds of Kindness, but Dafoe did reveal in an interview last year (when the movie was still known under the working title And) that one scene involves Stone slapping him in the face. Although Dafoe wasn’t required to be on set to film the action (which could have happened mostly offscreen), he insisted on taking the staged blow around 20 times.
In an interview with EW last year, Lanthimos explained why he loves working with Stone, and how their collaboration grew from director/actress to Stone also serving as a producer of Poor Things.
“Apart from being a great actress, [Emma] is a very unique presence overall,” Lanthimos told EW. “And as soon as I mentioned the story to her, she was immediately excited and just wanted to know everything about the world and read the script. I started discussing who else was going to work on it, how we’re going to film it, like other actors. She just became very fascinated with every aspect of the film. So that’s also how she ended up being a producer on the film because she was onboard so early on and involved in every aspect of it that it was inevitable that she took that role on as well.”
Listen to our full interview with Lanthimos below, and stay tuned for Kinds of Kindness coming this summer.
