Taylor Swift likely won’t be rushing to the movie theater to see best friend Emma Stone’s upcoming movie. Straight off the back of her Oscars win for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things, Stone is teaming up with the Greek filmmaker once again for upcoming film that will release on June 21, per Rolling Stone. Unfortunately for Swift, however, the star-studded cast list features one of her exes.
Yep, Joe Alwyn is one of several actors appearing in the newly-announced Kinds of Kindness which also stars Hong Chau, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer alongside Poor Things co-stars Stone, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley.
Swift, 34, and Stone, 35, have been close friends since 2009. The Oscar winner gave her superstar bestie a hilarious shoutout after her 2024 Golden Globes win when asked how she felt about Swift giving her a standing ovation.
Stone jokingly told reporters in the press room: “What an a–hole, am I right?” Before adding: “I’ve known her for almost 20 years and I was very happy she was there. She was also nominated tonight which was wonderful and, yes, what an a–hole.”

Swift has even attended several of the Oscar winner’s film premieres, including Poor Things. But we’re guessing she will not be at the upcoming Kinds of Kindness premiere unless she’s willing to cross paths with Alwyn. Swift and Alwyn, 33, split in early 2023 after six years of dating before the “Bad Blood” singer moved on with current boyfriend Travis Kelce.

However, Alwyn’s role in the new movie is not a total surprise due to his appearance in Lanthimos’s 2018 hit The Favorite, in which Stone also stars. Kinds of Kindness was also filmed back in 2022, while Alwyn and Swift were still together. In fact, paparazzi photographed the actor filming with Stone on Swift’s 33rd birthday. So, Swift is presumably well aware of the new project.
And, based on their Golden Globes hangout, we’re sure the friendship is very much intact! Either way, we’re excited to see Stone follow up her Oscars success with yet another exciting collaboration with Lanthimos.
