Although there’s no official synopsis at the time of writing. But Kripke previously teased what to expect the focus to be, telling Collider: “Moving forward, Ryan is a really important part of it. Both Butcher and Homelander have very good reasons to fight over Ryan, because the stakes could not be higher.
“If Ryan goes Homelander’s way and then there’s two Homelanders in the world, then that’s a nightmare for the planet. If Butcher can get Ryan into the light, then that’s probably actually the best weapon they have against Homelander. It’s always been a show about family, and so much of Season 3 was about fathers, so I think it makes sense that Season 4 is about sons.”
As seen in the teaser video we posted earlier, it seems like in Season 4 Homelander will be on trial due to him murdering a protesting civilian at the very end of Season 3. However, he could be freed without punishment, and he is still the Captain of the Seven.
Homelander’s Starr promised things are going to get even weirder in the next chapter. Speaking to Variety, he said the superhero show “somehow gets weirder and weirder and weirder,” adding that he was shooting one scene for Season 4 where “I was looking at the person I was opposite, and I said, ‘What are we doing? I can’t believe this! I could have done anything else with my life, but here I am doing this?’ It was truly the most bizarre thing I’ve ever done.”
In a recent interview with Collider, Pegg teased: “You know how crazy The Boys is? It’s gonna get crazier. I had so much fun on that show. It was so great to go back and play Hugh Sr. I love Jack [Quaid]. It was great to work with Rosemarie DeWitt, who plays Hughie’s mom, who comes back. It’s going to be great. You’re gonna love it.
“I’m in about four episodes, and it was a joy to be back. It’s a great crew. They are an amazing bunch of people, and that show is sick as fuck!”
We also know that The Boys spin-off show Gen V is going to act as a springboard for what’s to come.
“It was great to shoot Gen V because they tee up a lot of stuff that’s going to happen in season 4 for The Boys,” Claudia Doumit said during a pre-strike interview with EW.
“Gen V lays a lot of the groundwork and a lot of the foundations that season 4 will be built on for The Boys. So, watch it because it gives you a lot of information.”
In an interview with Variety, Kripke also confirmed the timeline between Gen V and Season 4. “In our minds, it’s only a couple of days after whatever the events are of Gen V. We try to keep the timeline super simple because all that folding-in-on-itself timeline stuff that I think other comic book universes find themselves having to do is just bewildering for me as a viewer,” he explained.
“So it’s all very modular. It’s like there’s Season 3 of The Boys, and then after that Gen V takes place, and then after that The Boys Season 4 takes place. And then after that, Gen V Season 2 takes place. It’s all more like cars on a train than it is a plate of spaghetti.”
