Superman: Legacy Gets Retitled As David Corenswet’s Costume Is Teased In Official Set Photo

Superman: Legacy gets its official S-shield revealed for James Gunn’s DC Universe, while also getting a new title as filming is now underway. The DCEU movie timeline is getting replaced by a new DC film franchise in the form of the DC Universe from Gunn and Peter Safran. The first movie that is coming out of DC Studios’ DC Universe is Superman: Legacy, which will focus on a younger Man of Tomorrow.

To celebrate Superman’s canonical birthday, Gunn shared on Threads the official logo for the new Man of Steel, as the Superman: Legacy cast has now started principal photography. However, the news came with a big DC Universe change, too, as Gunn also announced that the movie has now been retitled into Superman. Check out Gunn’s statement and logo reveal below:

Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday (!) When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025. Happy Birthday, Clark! UpUpAndAway

Every Superman Legacy Costume Detail Revealed So Far & What They Mean

In the lead-up to Superman: Legacy, a few costume details have been revealed; here is what we know so far, and what they mean for the movie.

Superman’s Costume First Look Explained

Prior to Superman starting filming, the logo had actually made its way online through nameplates from the cast members during their table read. This particular version of the House of El symbol is based on Superman from Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross. The only major difference is that the black in the shield has been replaced by yellow, one of Superman’s classic colors.

Based on the latest Superman update from Gunn, the photo of the costume seems to indicate that this will not necessarily be spandex but something closer resembling what Henry Cavill wore in the DCEU. When looking closer at the S-shield, there is more yellow outside the actual shield, which is a new touch when compared to past live-action Superman costumes. Until Gunn shares a full official look at the whole costume, the world can only speculate what the rest of the suit looks like on Corenswet.

Time will tell what the actual full-body suit looks like, including the cape and boots. But this is definitely a wonderful first look at the DC Universe’s new Superman. Hopefully, as Gunn’s Superman movie gets further into production, the DC Studios co-CEO will finally share a full shot of Corenswet in the costume.
