A proposed peace deal between the PGA Tour and Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) appears to be gathering pace again after the two sides met in the Bahamas on Monday.

It was expected that the meeting would take place in Florida following last week’s Players Championship, but the powers of professional golf instead headed to the Albany Resort in Nassau. The area is one known well to Tiger Woods, who hosts the Hero World Challenge and his annual fundraiser at the resort each year.

It remained unknown as to whether Woods would be involved in the peace talks on Monday, but with the Tour’s Players Directors attending, and the choice of venue, it appeared an appearance from the iconic Woods would be likely. According to plane trackers on social media, a jet owned by Woods arrived at Nassau airport ahead of the talks.

It comes as no surprise to see the American involved in the crunch talks, having announced himself as the biggest name in the sport throughout his career. His role on Monday appeared to be an important one too.

According to Barstool Sports, Woods was joined by PIF chief Yasir Al-Rumayyan on the golf course, with the pair discussing the future of professional golf. Speaking at the Genesis Invitational last month, Woods discussed the Tour’s potential partnership with their Saudi rivals on the back of acquiring the investment of the Strategic Sports Group (SSG) in January.

Whilst Woods appeared keen to align with the Saudis, he did admit that the PIF financial backing was no longer needed following the multi-billion dollar investment of SSG. “Well, the PIF deal obviously is ongoing,” he said in February. “SSG, we have solidified our agreement with them and PIF is still ongoing and we’re still negotiating.
