Oscars 2024: Billie Eilish looks overwhelmed as she gets standing ovation and brings Margot Robbie to tears with Barbie ballad before winning best song – as she leads star-studded acts

Billie Eilish appeared surprised after she brought the house down with her touching rendition of Oscar-nominated Barbie ballad ‘What Was I Made For?’ at Sunday’s star-studded ceremony.

The songstress, 22, seemed overwhelmed at the end of her performance as stars like Margot RobbieAriana Grande, and Greta Gerwig gave her a teary-eyed standing ovation.

After she finished up, Billie quickly looked at her brother Finneas, 26, who was playing the piano and began clapping for her.

The star then looked to the audience, noting their enthusiastic reaction as she exclaimed ‘woah!’ The nine-time Grammy-winning singer put a hand up to her mouth in utter surprise, before going to hug her brother.

The duo — who co-wrote the song together — went on to score a historic win as they nabbed the Oscar for Best Original Song, making Billie the youngest individual to win more than one Academy Award.

Eilish wore a stylish tweed suit as she performed a sweet rendition of the song for the crowd.

She last sang it at the 2024 GRAMMYs in February. The ballad was released as a single off the Barbie soundtrack in July 2023.

The song was up against fellow Barbie track ‘I’m Just Ken,’ (Ryan Gosling), as well as American Symphony’s ‘It Never Went Away,’ Flamin’ Hot’s ‘The Fire Inside’ and Killers of the Flower Moon’s ‘Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People).’

Eilish and Finneas are already Oscar winners, after they won the golden statue for Best Original Song in 2022 for their James Bond theme song, ‘No Time to Die.’

‘I had a nightmare about this last night. Thank you so much to the Academy. I just didn’t think this would happen, I was not expecting this. I feel so incredibly lucky and honored,’ Billie said in her acceptance speech.

‘I’m grateful for this song and this movie and the way that it made me feel,’ she went on. ‘This goes out to everyone that was affected by the movie and how incredible it is’

Ryan Gosling, 43, left the crowd in stitches as he popped out from behind Margot to perform the other Oscar nominated Barbie song, ‘I’m Just Ken’.

Margot, who did not receive a best actress nod for her portrayal of Barbie, was pictured chuckling at the pleasant surprise.

Gosling rocked a bright pink suit for his colorful performance and commanded the crowd’s attention as he was joined by a number of male dancers.

Earlier in the night there was a spectacular performance of ‘Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)’ from Killers of the Flower Moon, performed by Scott George and the Osage Singers.
