One Piece: The Goro Goro no Mi Devil Fruit, Explained

For many reasons, the Goro Goro no Mi stands out as one of the most potent devil fruits depicted in the show.

The Rumble Rumble devil fruit was introduced in the Skypiea arc of the One Piece series and has not made an appearance since the conclusion of the arc. As a logia-type devil fruit, the Rumble Rumble devil fruit makes its user a lightning human, as the user, in essence, can control and become lightning. So far, the only character seen in the series to possess the Rumble Rumble devil fruit is Enel, and with the fruit, he granted himself the moniker of God.

In terms of abilities, the Rumble Rumble devil fruit is compared to the likes of the Glint Glint devil fruit and the Magma Magma devil fruit, making it one of the more powerful logia devil fruits in the One Piece series.

Abilities And Powers Granted By The Rumble Rumble Devil Fruit

The Rumble Rumble Devil Fruit Is Known To Be Invincible

The most basic application of the Rumble Rumble devil fruit is that it allows its user to manipulate and become lightning. Furthermore, the user can discharge lighting to strike their opponents. As lightning boasts incredibly destructive potential, the Rumble Rumble devil fruit grants its user high offensive power alongside speed and versatility similar to the Glint Glint devil fruit. As the user of the Goro Goro devil fruit is tuned into lightning, like other users of logia devil fruits, they become intangible. Moreover, as lightning, enemies who attack users of the Rumble Rumble devil fruits can be electrocuted if they use a conductive weapon such as metal swords or spears. The user of the Rumble Rumble fruit is also able to discharge large amounts of lightning across vast distances. They can also transverse large distances themselves as lighting, and apply the heat generated by lighting. This use of high temperatures is seen when Enel morphed his golden staff into various shapes so that he could stab Luffy in Skypiea.

As revealed in the One Piece series, all devil fruits have a second stage called awakening, in which the user or their environments are transformed. While the awakening of the Rumble Rumble devil fruit is expected to consume the environment of its user with lightning, as no logia-type devil fruits have been awakened in the One Piece series so far, fans can only speculate for now without knowing the actual effects. However, some believe that the environment of the user would be transformed into their fruit’s element, as seen with Punk Hazard, which transformed into an island of half hot and half cold after Akainu and Aokiji’s battle.

Despite the overwhelming offensive power and versatility of the Rumble Rumble devil fruit, it also has weaknesses, excluding haki and sea stone prisms, which all devil fruits have as a bane. This natural enemy of the Rumble Rumble devil fruit is what allowed Luffy to defeat Enel in the Skypiea arc.

Usage And Weakness

The Rumble Rumble Devil Fruit Has A Natural Counter

Prior to the beginning of the series, Enel discovered the Rumble Rumble devil fruit. After eating it, he gained its powers, and with the powers from the Rumble Rumble devil fruit, he gained a God complex, which led him to destroy his hometown and seek to conquer many other sky islands. At the point in which the Rumble Rumble devil fruit was introduced, it could truly be considered invincible, with Nico Robin even stating its invincibility.

Among the many powers… Certainly… It’s one of those touted as “invincible”. The power of lightning. —Nico Robin

Unluckily for Enel, Luffy turned out to be his natural bane, as Enel’s lightning did not affect him. For a being that referred to himself as God, Enel was ultimately surprised that his devil fruit, which granted him so much power, had a weakness, and it was no more than the Rubber Rubber devil fruit. With Luffy’s immunity to lightning, the base applications of the Rumble Rumble devil fruit were rendered useless against Luffy. However, even with that, the more advanced usage of the fruit made defeating Enel a tall task.

The power of “lightning” is completely nullified…!!! To think there’s a person in this world who can’t be affected by “lightning.” It’s definitely something even Enel never expected. Perhaps Luffy is Enel’s sole natural enemy in this world —Nami

Impact And Significance Of The Rumble Rumble Devil Fruit In The Series

Will The Rumble Rumble Devil Fruit Make A Reappearance In The Series?

Despite appearing in only one arc in the One Piece series, the Rumble Rumble devil fruit has managed to leave its mark on the series. Enel showcased just how powerful the Rumble Rumble fruit is, with him defeating Luffy various times even though Luffy turned out to be his natural enemy. The power of the Rumble Rumble devil fruit has made it highly rated by fans, and as such a powerful devil fruit, various fans are interested in the fruit making a re-appearance in the series. However, whether or not Enel will make a re-appearance in the series is unknown. With the Rumble Rumble devil fruit, Enel is expected to be on the same level as the likes of Kizaru if he does make a re-appearance showing just how much of an impact the Rumble Rumble devil fruit could have on the series.
