But Lady Gaga has been quietly plotting her musical comeback, teasing the fruits of her labour on social media this week as she unveiled details about her new single Perfect Illusion, her first single since album Artpop in 2013.
The Grammy award winning singer co-wrote the song with Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker and BloodPop.
Gaga has been peppering her Instagram account with arty collages referencing her new single, which is set for release on September 9.

‘We made a #PERFECTILLUSION’, she captioned three images of herself posing with Mark Ronson, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and producer Blood Pop, her her talented collaborators.
She also shared a short snippet of the track alongside a clip of herself dancing, as well as some lyrics to the song.
They read: ‘I don’t need eyes to see/ I felt you touchin’ me/ High like amphetamine/ Maybe you’re just a dream.’
