After his most recent knockout victory against Francis Ngannou, Anthony Joshua is determined to become a three-time world champion. He also intends to prolong his retirement from competition.
In two years, Anthony Joshua has stated that he intends to retire.
Ben Davison, the former trainer of Tyson Fury, has helped Joshua win his previous four fights and he appears to be a different boxer. The former two-time world champion decisively defeated Francis Ngannou last month to earn a chance to challenge Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury for the undisputed world belts in their upcoming bout on May 18 in Saudi Arabia.
Joshua was asked when he’ll hang up his gloves whilst on The Jonathan Ross show, to which he replied: “I’ve always said 35. I’m 35 in October, I’m thinking another two years or so if my body holds out. I’ve set up certain businesses that I can transition into naturally which don’t rely on me being at the forefront.”
The Brit didn’t take much damage against Ngannou as the former UFC champion only landed eight punches before he was knocked out. But Joshua likely won’t be fighting again for five months as he said: “Around September is when I’ve been told. I was hoping June. I’ve got some time to go on dates now and mingle a little bit. I’m training at the minute, I’ve got two months before I get into training camp.”
One of Joshua’s main sparring partners thinks he will stick around until the age of 40 if he becomes a three-time world champion. Jeamie TK helped ‘AJ’ prepare for his most recent win and thinks the Brit’s new destructive style can give him three to five more years of activity in the ring.
“He believes in what Ben and Lee Wylie are teaching him. That’s what gives him the confidence to do what he’s doing. I just feel like AJ’s going to be a three-time world champion and the way he’s moving he’s added three maybe five years to his career.” Jeamie told Boxing News.
