In an interview with IndieWire, Mangold discussed A Complete Unknown and disclosed that he had directly consulted Dylan during the film’s production.
I’ve had numerous incredibly pleasant days spent in his company, having one-on-one conversations with him.He stated, “I have a script that he personally annotated and that I treasure.”
The director continued by saying that he thought Dylan’s transition to electric music had relevance to the present day.
“We are all so tribalized with rules about what our music should be, about what our rules are, how we speak, how we express ourselves,” he said. “That all has tremendous relevance even now.”
