Priyanka Chopra reveals unexpected reason why she wanted husband Nick Jonas to participate in her latest movie, Love Again.
After flopping at the box office earlier this year, the romantic comedy starring Chopra and Outlander‘s Sam Heughan is now conquering Netflix, enjoying of some delayed popularity. The film is a remake of the 2016 German movie SMS für Dich, which is based in the 2009 novel of the same name written by Sofie Cramer. The story centers on a woman named Mira Ray, who is going through a difficult time after losing the love of her life.
Unable to deal with the situation, she starts messaging the man that owns the phone number that used to belong to her boyfriend. He lives at the other side of the city, and has recently been through a hard time regarding his love life too. While both try to move on with their lives, their connection grows and evolves into something more than a friendship.
Directed by James C. Strouse, Love Again also stars Celine Dion as herself, Sofia Barclay, Russell Tovey, Lydia West, Steve Oram, Omid Djalili, Celia Imrie, Arinzé Kene, and Chopra’s husband, actor and musician Nick Jonas, who joined the project because her wife asked for him for a very specific reason.
Priyanka Chopra Didn’t Want to Kiss a Random Guy in Love Again
In the film, Chopra’s character hasn’t been on a date for two years, and tries to get herself out there once again, for which she arranges a date with a personal trainer named Joel, played by Nick Jonas. As expected, the date doesn’t go well, ending up with both of them making out in a cab in a funny but gross scene which made the actress ask for her husband to join the movie.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chopra revealed that as the movie was shot during COVID-19, she really didn’t want to kiss some random actor:
“I was very excited about the fact that Nick agreed to do this, because the scene was written as you saw it. They were going to cast a random actor who would’ve eventually had to lick my face during COVID, which meant that he had to quarantine for 14 days and sit in a hotel room just waiting to lick my face. It was just awful.”
Fortunately, Jonas is not only an experienced musician, he has also shown his acting skills many times. The youngest member of the Jonas Brothers started acting at a very young age in Broadway, participating in acclaimed musicals such as Beauty and the Beast, Les Misérables or Hairspray.
He also participated in some movies like Careful What You Wish For, Goat, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level. In television, he starred in show like Scream Queens and Kingdom, with the latter being one of his most remarkable works.
