วันที่ 23 พฤษภาคม 2567 ดาร์วิน นูนเญซ ออกมาเปิดเผยความรู้สึกที่มีต่อคำวิจารณ์จากแฟนบอล ลิเวอร์พูล ที่เล่นงานสภาพจิตใจของเขาอย่างต่อเนื่อง จนเจ้าตัวถึงขั้นลบรูปภาพของตนในสีเสื้อหงส์แดงออกจากอินสตาแกรมแทบจะหมดบัญชี
โดย นูนเญซ ได้กล่าวผ่าน อีเอสพีเอ็น อุรุกวัย ว่า “ผมรู้สึกเหมือนได้กลับบ้าน ทุกครั้งที่ได้เข้าแคมป์ทีมชาติอุรุกวัย”
“มันเหมือนกับว่าคุณได้กลับไปอยู่รวมกับผู้คนรอบข้างที่สามารถพูดคุยด้วยได้แบบสบายใจ ทำให้ทุกครั้งที่ได้เดินทางไปรวมกับทีมชาติ มันเหมือนว่าผมได้อยู่บ้านตัวเอง”
ปัจจุบัน อินสตาแกรมของ นูนเญซ ยังคงไร้วี่แววเสื้อสีแดงของ ลิเวอร์พูล และตั้งแต่เหตุการณ์ดังกล่าวเกิดขึ้น เขาก็ยังไม่ได้ลงรูปเกี่ยวกับสโมสรแม้แต่รูปเดียว
