Real Madrid’s forward line will be significantly strengthened in the summer when Kylian Mbappe and Endrick Felipe make their long-awaited arrivals, but despite two strikers signing, there are no plans to part ways with Joselu Mato.
Los Blancos raised eyebrows last summer when Joselu was their only striker signing, despite the departure of Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad. However, despite not starting regularly, the 34-year-old has had an excellent season, contributing 18 goals across all competitions – including two against Bayern Munich that booked Real Madrid’s place in another Champions League final.
As per Sky Germany reporter Patrik Berger, Real Madrid will activate the buy option for Joselu in their loan agreement with Espanyol. The amount they will have to pay? A measly €1.5m.
🚨 Excl. Real Madrid will extend the contract with Joselu (34/🇪🇸) for another year. The Spanish side is set to pull the buy option. @JoseluMato9 – on loan from Espanyol Barcelona – playing a fantastic season for @realmadrid with 17 goals and 3 assists. ⚪️ @SkySportNews

The money will also help Espanyol with their financial woes, which could be made even worse if they do not achieve promotion back to La Liga. Either way, Real Madrid will continue to count on Joselu for at least another 12 months.
