“Karthi’s character is based on my friend, and director (Maruthupandian) who came all the way from the village to make a film. He did a film called Asuravadham (2018). His (Maruthupandian’s) traits have been placed in Karthi’s character.

I have also borrowed from a plumber who visited my house, whose traits too are in Karthi’s character. They are all innocent, not ignorant or mentally retarded. They are absolutely perfect people who consciously decide to remain that way. We may think they don’t know but they are just blissfully unaware.”

 

Just like director Prem Kumar’s debut movie 96, Meiyazhagan too takes place over the course of a night, comes with a runtime of less than 2 hours, and revolves primarily across the two leading characters. Meiyazhagan is produced by Jyotika and Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, and has Govind Vasantha for music.

Star actor Kamal Haasan has lent his vocals to two songs in the movie, one of which could be heard in the Meiyazhagan trailer. Also starring Sri Divya, Rajkiran, Devadarshini, Ilavarasu, Karunakaran, among others, Meiyazhagan has Mahendiran Jayaraju for cinematography, R.Govindaraj for edits, Rajeevan for production design, Ayyapan for art, and Subhashree Kaarthik Vijay for the costumes.
