Goldie Hawn has been with her 72-year-old partner Kurt Russell for 40 years but they have never wed.

Now the Overboard actress has shared why the two have yet to walk down the aisle to say, ‘I do.’

The 77-year-old blonde Hollywood staple talked to journalist Chris Wallace on his special Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? when he asked her why she never wed the hunky Escape From New York actor.

‘Why aren’t the two of you married?’ Wallace asked Hawn point blank on his show,

Goldie – who was in London last week – snapped back, ‘Why should we be? Isn’t that a better question?’

Hawn also brought up how divorces are costly: ‘When it doesn’t work out, it ends up to be big business,’ the actress said.

Hawn married director Gus Trikonis in 1969 before their marriage ended in divorce in 1976.

She then had a six-year marriage with musician Bill Hudson, with whom she shares two children, Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson.

‘It’s always ugly,’ she continued.

‘Somebody actually has to take a look and say, “How many divorces actually are fun? How many divorces actually don’t cost money? How many divorces actually make you hate the person more than you did before? How many divorces have hurt children?”‘

Wallace would not back down.

‘But [you and Russell have] been together 40 years, you’re not going to get divorced,’ Wallace pressed.

‘How did you know that then?’ Hawn asked.

‘I like the idea that I can wake up in the morning and make decisions every day if I want to be here.

‘I mean relationships are hard,’ she continued. ‘They’re not always easy. There’s all kinds of hurdles we go through. There’s things that we believe in, things we don’t believe in, we agree on.

‘So I think ultimately staying independent with independent thinking is important, so you can hold on to yourself, and you can actually have that feeling,’ she concluded.

Hawn took to Instagram to comment on the interview.

‘I get asked the darndest things! (Love you Chris),’ she wrote in her caption.

The couple have always been open about not having plans to marry.

And they have said in the past they do not feel that marriage ‘cements a relationship’.

‘I would have been long divorced if I’d been married,’ the Private Benjamin star said during on the British talk show Loose Women in 2016.

They have worked together – on Swing Shift, Overboard and their Christmas movies.

And they are often seeing getting cozy on social media.

In 2021 they kissed for the camera during a Golden Globes bash – Hawn’s daughter Kate Hudson, who was nominated for a Golden Globe and served as a presenter during the ceremony.

Hudson was just three-years-old when her mother began dating Russell.

The actress has marveled over their love over the years, just like many fans around the world.

‘They real cute,’ she wrote in the caption of the photo showing Russell leaning down to kiss his ladylove, who was sitting down at the time, in 2021.

Kurt has also been a step-father to Kate and her brother Oliver for most of their lives.
