WHARTON, Texas – A young bull rider from Wyoming has died after being injured during a bull riding event in Wharton.

Dylan Grant was riding a bull in the second round of the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls event when he was injured after being bucked off the bull, according to the PRCA.

Grant was rushed to an ambulance by medics who worked to stabilize him. He was then flown by helicopter to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to Grant’s PRCA profile, he was from Laramie, Wyoming and had taken home $3,760 in earnings this season. In his career, he took home a total of $15,710, according to PRCA.

“Grant first obtained his PRCA permit on May 1, 2018, and then bought his PRCA card on Feb. 14, 2024. He has competed in multiple PRORODEO and Xtreme Bulls events throughout his career,” PRCA said in a statement on its website. “In 2021, while also competing for the University of Wyoming rodeo team, he won the bull riding title at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo with 169.5 points on two head. He won Round 3 at the MSCFR in Loveland, Colo., that year with an 86.5-point ride on The Cervi Brothers’ Classic Equine Bad Memory.”
