Jimin’s level of success as a solo artist following his official debut is beyond impressive. He has achieved so many records both on domestic and foreign major music charts, cementing his name into history.
For instance, he made history as the first Korean solo artist to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard Artist 100, and Billboard Japan Artist 100, registering the biggest sales debut for any Korean soloist in the US with both his album on Billboard 200 and his lead single on Billboard Digital Song Sales. He also has the highest sales debut for a Korean solo artist on Japan’s Oricon chart. He additionally achieved the highest streaming debut for any Korean solo song on Spotify USA, UK, France and Global charts among many other regions.
These are just but a few of his monumental records, all of which have led him to be rightfully recognized in different key end-year music awards, earning him multiple nominations in some of the major music awards shows in the entertainment industry both in South Korea and internationally.
Just a few days ago, Jimin earned 8 solo nominations at the 2023 MAMA Awards (Mnet Asian Music Awards) as the most nominated solo artist this year, and had a total of 13 nominations, including his group’s nominations to emerge as the most nominated artist overall this year. This is a major music awards ceremony held annually, and many Asian artists covet the recognition of such a big event. Jimin managed to bag all these nominations with his first solo project, and it speaks volumes to his influence and the kind of impact he has had with his first album.
Now the finalists for the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) 2023, yet another major international music awards show, have been announced. Jimin swept up 4 nominations on becoming a finalist in 4 different categories this year to become the most nominated Korean solo artist this year. He was named as a finalist in the ‘Top Selling Song,’ ‘Top Global K-pop Song,’ ‘Top K-pop Album,’ and ‘Top Global K-pop Artist’ categories.
With these 4 nominations, Jimin is now the second most nominated Korean and Asian solo artist in the history of the awards show, and is the most nominated Asian/K-pop male artist this year.
He also makes history as the first and only Asian solo artist to become a finalist in the ‘Top Selling Song’ category, which is a major category for the awards show, making this an exceptional achievement for Jimin! The only other Asian act to earn a nomination in this category is his own group BTS, making him only the second Asian act in history to earn this. Additionally, there isn’t any other Asian finalist in this non-K-pop category this year either, nor any other Korean song.
Moreover, he is the only solo artist who ended up as a finalist in the remaining 3 categories of ‘Top Global K-pop Song’, ‘Top K-pop Album’ and ‘Top Global K-pop Artist’ this year. All other finalists are group acts.
Out of these 3 categories, Jimin is also the first and only K-pop soloist in history to earn nominations in the ‘Top K-pop Album’ and ‘Top Global K-pop Artist’ categories.Again, all these facts are a strong testament to Jimin’s mind-blowing success with his first solo album, and this kind of recognition is a dream that every artist most definitely wishes for.
