Idea of a humanitarian camp is totally unbearable and unpractical: Former Israeli PM

In a startling revelation, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has condemned the proposed humanitarian camp in Gaza as “totally unbearable and unpractical,” igniting fierce debate over Israel’s military strategy amid ongoing conflict. Speaking live from Tel Aviv, Olmert expressed grave concerns about the feasibility and morality of relocating 600,000 Palestinians from northern Gaza to a segregated area in the south, describing it as “stupid, reckless, and irresponsible.”

While Olmert refrained from labeling the situation a concentration camp, he did not shy away from criticizing the Israeli government’s actions, stating that the military operations have reached a point where they are causing unnecessary casualties among both Israeli soldiers and Palestinian civilians. He emphasized that the initial military response to Hamas’s attacks on October 7, 2023, was justified, but the continuation of hostilities now lacks a legitimate military objective.

His comments come amidst mounting pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with critics suggesting that the prolonged conflict serves as a distraction from Netanyahu’s personal legal troubles. Olmert joined a chorus of former military leaders advocating for a ceasefire, arguing that the cost of further military engagement is too high. “We must stop this,” he urged, calling for an international coalition to take control of Gaza and ensure stability.

As the humanitarian crisis escalates, the international community is watching closely. Olmert’s stark warnings underscore the dire situation on the ground and the urgent need for a reevaluation of Israel’s military strategy. With tensions running high and the humanitarian needs of the population growing, the call for a shift in approach has never been more critical.
