**Breaking News: A Backpacking Trip Turns into a Harrowing Nightmare in Australia**

In a shocking turn of events, two young backpackers, Lena from Germany and Beatric from Brazil, found themselves at the mercy of a violent predator during what was supposed to be a scenic road trip along Australia’s Great Ocean Road. On February 9, 2016, the women accepted a ride from 59-year-old Roman Hines, a man with a disturbing criminal history, including previous assaults on women.

What began as a hopeful adventure quickly spiraled into horror when Hines diverted towards the remote Salt Creek. There, he attacked Beatric, using a knife and a hammer to subdue her. In a desperate attempt to survive, Beatric bravely feigned compliance, hoping to lead Hines back to camp where Lena could help. But as the situation escalated, Lena awoke to a nightmare: Beatric was being assaulted, and she rushed to intervene, only to be struck in the head by Hines.

In a terrifying chase, Lena ran for her life, blood pouring from her injuries as Hines pursued her in his vehicle. Miraculously, she managed to escape onto the roof of his car, while Beatric, still naked and terrified, flagged down a passing vehicle filled with young men. They quickly called the police and raced back to help Lena.

The men cornered Hines, allowing Lena to escape, but the predator fled into the wilderness. Thanks to the swift actions of the locals and law enforcement, Hines was captured shortly after. Lena and Beatric were rushed to the hospital, where Lena’s critical injuries were treated.

Hines was later charged with multiple serious offenses, including aggravated kidnapping and assault. In a chilling twist, it was revealed that he had been in contact with other backpackers prior to this incident, raising fears of potential additional victims. The trial concluded with Hines sentenced to 22 years in prison, but the haunting question remains: who was the girl seen with him before this horrific event? Authorities fear she may be another tragic victim buried in the dunes of Salt Creek.

This harrowing case serves as a grim reminder of the dangers lurking in the shadows, even in the most idyllic settings.
