A SPORTS reporter has been fired for comments made about Charlie Kirk.
PHNX Sports has sacked Gerald Bourguet for his remarks made in the wake of Kirk’s assassination.
The company announced the firing of Bourguet on social media.
“The opinions expressed by our employees do not represent the views of PHNX or ALLCITY Network,” PHNX Sports wrote on X.
“We take matters involving violence very seriously and are committed to ensuring that ALLCITY remains a safe place for our employees and community alike.
“We have addressed this matter with the individual and made the decision to part ways.”
Bourguet is a popular beat reporter covering the Phoenix Suns, but angered fans with several posts after Kirk’s death.
“‘Political differences’ are not the same thing as spewing hateful rhetoric on a daily basis, and refusing to mourn a life devoted to that cause is not the same thing as celebrating gun violence,” he wrote on X.
“Just so we’re 100% clear on that.”
“If you’re saddened by today’s ‘political violence,’ horrified by the video, or repulsed by my response, ask yourself why your reaction was different when it came to school shootings, mass deportations or the HUNDREDS of videos of horrific murders in Gaza (which Kirk cheered on),” Bourguet wrote in a separate post.
Bourguet’s sacking comes just hours after the Carolina Panthers fired a staffer for their posts on social media.
Charlie Rock, the Panthers’ football communications coordinator, was axed after posting “why are yall sad?” after Kirk’s murder.
The Panthers denounced the statement on X.
“The views expressed by our employees are their own and do not represent those of the Carolina Panthers,” the fanchise said on X.
“We do not condone violence of any kind.
“We are taking this matter very seriously and have accordingly addressed it with the individual.”
A source within the Panthers organization confirmed to The U.S. Sun that Rock has been removed from team staff.
Kirk was struck in the neck by a gunshot wound while speaking at a rally at Utah Valley University.
He was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
Kirk leaves behind a wife and two children.
A manhunt is currently underway to catch his killer.
One individual was taken into custody but was later released.
