Mary later began dating Faye Helders (Jane Gurnett), who was revealed to be a con artist and sent an intimate photo of Mary to all of her contacts.

Last year, Mary shared a romantic bond with Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough), who was dating Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) at the time.

Vanessa was therefore left heartbroken upon discovering Mary’s secret kiss with Suzy prior to her tragic death in the limo crash earlier this year.

After her relationship with Suzy came to light, Mary disclosed her plans to leave the village back in April, before returning later that month.

Shortly after her reappearance, Mary notably punched a man who had taken advantage of her granddaughter, April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan), while she was living on the streets.

Several months later, it was revealed that Mary had injured her wrist again after taking a fall at home, with the character confirming that she just needed to “rest it for a few weeks”.

During the latest instalment of Emmerdale, which is now available to stream on ITVX, Mary was using a crutch as she served Tracy Robinson (Amy Walsh) in The Woolpack.

“So, have you had a fall?” Tracy enquired, with Mary quipping in response: “No, did it bungee jumping.”

Several viewers are worried that Mary’s repeated injuries could be a sign of something more sinister to come.

“What’s with Mary and all her injuries?” one person asked on a Facebook fan page.

Another added: “Welcome back Mary, hope your leg’s okay,” while a third said: “What is happening with Mary?!”

A fourth viewer echoed the sentiment, saying: “Random they had another Mary injury and she just brushed it off again. Could this lead to a dementia diagnosis?”
