Benson Boone delivered an emotional speech about how “sometimes people leave your life” at a recent show, amid rumors he and girlfriend Maggie Thurmon have split.
At his Tuesday, Sept. 9 concert in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena, the “Beautiful Things” hitmaker noted how it “sucks” when this happens before performing his 2022 track “In the Stars,” per fan-captured TikTok footage.
Boone’s heartfelt words came days before TMZ reported that he and his influencer girlfriend had recently broken up.
Reps for Boone did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
“Sometimes people leave your life,” the “Mystical Magical” performer, 23, told the crowd. “Whether it’s the right thing or the wrong thing. And it is always hard — always, every single time.”

Boone continued: “And it sucks. And it sucks to sit in it, and it sucks to be sad about it, and it sucks to feel that so hard sometimes. But it’s okay, it’s life. It happens. And as terrible as it is, there’s always something or someone who can pull you out of it.”
Before kicking off “In the Stars,” Boone began to choke up, “I usually say writing this song helps me a lot, but singing this song tonight is going to help me a lot.”
“I hope you enjoy this song tonight because tonight this song means something very special, and I hope you take home something from this night. And if it is this song, if it is any song, let it be the next three and a half minutes because I promise this means everything to me,” he concluded.
In March 2024, Boone and Thurmon — who rose to fame on TikTok in 2019 — were first spotted together publicly, three months before debuting their romance on Instagram.
While it’s unclear when the duo met, they have appeared together at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, where Boone won the award for best alternative video. Additionally, they shared their everyday lives on each other’s social media accounts.
In May 2025, Boone was joined by Thurmon, 23, when he performed on Saturday Night Live for the first time, and following the performance, the pair were photographed attending the afterparty in New York City.
Boone is currently in the midst of his American Heart Tour in support of his 2025 album of the same name.
