Priyanka Chopra Opens Up About Struggles of Being a Mom“I think when you put them to bed, it’s extremely overwhelming because every single day you worry about what you can do wrong and what mistake you might make,” she said. “But you have to check yourself, and I check myself with my family.”
She calls raising baby Malti “the greatest thing I’ve ever done”
Priyanka Chopra is talking about the “overwhelming” side of being a mother.
In a new interview with People, the actor opened up about the everyday journey of raising her daughter Malti Marie, whom she and husband Nick Jonas welcomed via surrogate in January 2022. When asked how often she feels overwhelmed as a mom, the star answered, “I think every day.”
Chopra explained, “I think when you put them to bed, it’s extremely overwhelming because every single day you worry about what you can do wrong and what mistake you might make. But you have to check yourself, and I check myself with my family.”
“I look at [my daughter’s] smile, and I’m like, Okay, okay. I’m doing good so far,” she added. “It’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s extremely scary.”
She also admitted that motherhood has made her more aware of her own emotions. “It’s made me a tad more sensitive and fragile, I think, and it makes me nervous a little bit,” she said, adding, “I didn’t expect that.”
The Citadel star has also talked about baby Malti’s unstable health early on. The infant was born a full trimester before her due date and spent more than 100 days in the NICU, with Jonas and Chopra visiting daily.
“I was so close to losing her so many times that she can get away with anything and I just want to see her happy,” the actor told Elle last April. “I want her to be the happiest. She’s a super smiley, happy baby, and that’s all my goal is—to see her joyous. Every time she smiles, it lights up my world, and that’s all I want to do.
‘I used to put my ear on her chest. I would wake up every couple of minutes just to see if she was OK. For weeks, this went on.’
Initially, the first-time parents did their best to keep their daughter out of the spotlight, so that she could build up her strength without any distractions.
However, Chopra and Jonas have appeared to loosen things up in more recent times, and are now taking her out to appearances and are showing her face a little bit more in social media posts.
Just this past January, around her first birthday, Malti made her first public appearance with her parents when she attended the ceremony honoring the Jonas Brothers with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in Los Angeles.
