Virgil van Dijk has been left out of Liverpool’s travelling squad for the Reds’ Europa League trip to Toulouse.

The club captain took part in open training on Wednesday afternoon at the AXA Training Centre, with it unclear at this time whether the Netherlands international is just being rested or if there is a more concerning reason for his absence from the travelling party.

Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch have also been left at home after missing training. The former was already a doubt for the trip to France after a minor injury ruled him out of Liverpool’s trip to Luton Town on Sunday.

Left out of the travelling squad, Jones has not overcome such an issue, with Gravenberch joining him on the sidelines. While the specific reason for the trio’s absence is not confirmed, Jurgen Klopp is expected to offer an injury update at his pre-match press conference in France on Thursday night.

Without the Van Dijk, Jones, and Gravenberch, the German has named a 22-man travelling squad for the trip to Toulouse, with the Reds knowing a win will guarantee their place in the Europa League knock-out stages.

Long-term absentees Thiago Alcantara, Andy Robertson, and Stefan Bajcetic remain absent, while Conor Bradley is also left out of the squad despite returning to training. Youngsters Luke Chambers, Calum Scanlon, Ben Doak, James McConnell, Jarell Quansah, and Fabian Mrozek are all included in the travelling party.

Liverpool squad for Toulouse: Alisson, Gomez, Endo, Konate, Diaz, Szoboszlai, Nunez, Mac Allister, Salah, Gakpo, Elliott, Jota, Tsimikas, Matip, Chambers, Scanlon, Doak, McConnell, Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Mrozek.
